This is somewhat on topic. Does anyone know where the orange/yellow micarta handles are sold? They are in the FAQ/Blade database and listed as production handles, though I've never seen them for sale. That and don't believe I've actually seen them on a knife before.

Check out Chestnut Ridge, they do some great work.

They do flat slabs though, right?

I think they do both, actually, I don't know. I don't have any, but some of the pics in previous threads should tell the tale. I remember seeing some Blaze orange that looked molded. Not sure.

If someone was inclined, there are numerous places to get G10, micarta, and other materials for not alot of money, giving you the option to make whatever you wish. Wear a respirator though.

Been working on making my own knife and just got up to to the handle stage, though I do have some more sanding of the blade and then HT.

If you were just filing the micarta down, I assume the respirator is still needed? Not using a belt sander or possibly any sanding of the micarta. That and if it isn't safe to breath, how saw is it to get in your eyes lol. Thinking of the full face respirators.

I don't think Micarta is as bad as G10, but I wouldn't take any chances. When I work on it here, I head outside, and wear goggles and breather. But that's me, I have respiratory problems anyways, no need to add to it.

Better safe than sorry. Would be a pain even if there were no ill heath effects.

What are you thinking about using? I like OD canvas micarta, its a fav of mine for years. Wish I had some more.

I have some brown canvas micarta. Looks similar to the natural colored stuff though. I really like canvas micarta in general since it is grippy and looks pretty cool. Can't wait to cut the handles out, even a rough shape will make this seem like a legit knife.

Will have to put together a more formal WIP thread when I am done. I have some pics on my flickr account here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rizaaroni/sets/72157625200954227/

Realistically, it would be wonderful to have grip options. Even different colored micarta would be highly functional. Bright orange or yellow would be pretty hard to lose on a forest floor or in the snow.

The thing that really impresses me about Becker blades is the quality for the price, especially in a large knife like the BK-9. Cost savings have to be made somewhere and it is obviously the sheath. Those nylon sheaths are pretty blah. But, I also realize that with a nice plastic sheath, the price has to go up some, just the reality of it.

I vote sheaths.

I voted for handle materials/options, but I also like the possibility of different sheath options. Leather would be a nice option for those who would want it. Not necessarily something fancy. Same with handle options. Choices are nice--a sort of basic customization from the factory.

Exactly my thoughts on these two options. I went for different sheaths because I like the idea of an upgrade to the standard ones.

Well, thanks to all that posted, I just got back from Ethan's and thanks to this poll, other handle options will be looked into. Nothing definete yet, but we talked about G10 and different colored Micarta for other handle options. The people have spoken, and the man listened.

As for the sheath options, not sure about that. Until Kabar releases new sheaths for the line up, sit tight, you might be impressed with the new one. You might not. Either way, sheaths are being looked at.

Maybe I am out of the loop, but there are new sheaths coming?

Yeah, Kabar is looking into new manufacturers for their sheaths, duh. Where you been?

Naw seriously, its in the works, there is a post that Toooj made about a new redesigned BK11/14 sheath somewhere in here.

Sorry for the A2 stainless steel flub. I was on the phone with the owner of Smoky Mountain R&D when I was posting this. Multitasking is hard to do sometimes.

No biggie buddy. There's plenty that I don't know and I'm always learning.

i voted for handles. the only thing made me more interested in ranger knives than becker knives are the handles they made.IMHO
