Chopper design

Instead of the bird beak you could just roundly expand the back end of the handle(ala coke bottle).
 
I'd change the blade design a bit.

First I'd make the length 10" or so. Plus I'd make it wider toward the tip and narrower near the handle (like a bolo). I would also drop the handle at morw of an angle and have the end of the handle curve like the bell end on a kukri. This aids retention as well as making it possible to get an increased snap on the cut.
 
Will you be tapering the tang or skeletonizing it? Just thinking of how you could push the balance point further forward.

I think its good as is, likt I said micarta is grippy enough as is.

I was limeted by my steel size, also I wanted it to have other capabilitys as well.
 
Hey, I think its a neat looking design. Practical and task focused.
 
If you want a real chopper for its size, i'd taper the tang, and relieve some of the weight by drilling some holes in the butt, in the mid section, but i would stay away from the handle/blade transition to preserve strength.
I like the width, if i read it right, its 1 3/4" at the widest, right? If you reduce the width close to the handle to say somthing like 1 3/8"- 1 5/8" you could put more weight forward. thought about a choil? it will change the balance slightly, but it will be handy.
I like knives like this to feel like a stubby cleaver with a point, like a HBC knife, good for chopping, heavy whittling, ect.

I would also make the handle thicker on the butt, and allow for a good pinch grip near the "gaurd"

What handle material are you using?
 
I'm moving this to the Knifemaker's section. You would get better results from the members of W&SS AND other knifemakers.

I have gone over this before....and I'm not going to go over it again. Post in the correct forum not were you THINK it should go.

a few things im not happy with
handle could have been about an inch longer, but I only had 12" peice of steel and that would have reduced chopping preformance by alot. the edge bevel on the right side is a little catywhompus, and the last thing is very minor; the middle pin was slighty down of where I wanted.
other than that she is perfect, I am debating wheter to keep or sell her..........

steel: .178" 1080
handle: brown canvas micarta
pins: 3/16" and 5/16" brass
OAL: 12"
handle length: 4 1/2"
blade: 7" from the plunge line.

That looks great man! I say don't worry about the grind line, try to do better next time, right? Come on, it's a chopper! That just adds to its character! I would say that selling it would be fine as long as you promise yourself you'll use the cash from the sale to make yourself another since you really seemed to put a lot of what you wanted in a chopper into this one... Just my $0.02!
