chopper

Not my brand. When a maker comes up with better steel and tougher knives I will by them. No loyalty whatsoever.

You sound a little green eyed.

Skam

No envy at all skam. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about Busse. I'm glad you like them. I have no doubt that they are excellent knives and that their reputation is well-deserved.

....it just seemed odd that you would, on one hand, comment on the hype brought by the MORE than annoying Busse fans, while, on the other hand, say that some people's negative opinions about aspects of Busse knives are due to "everyone hating the top dog."

Seems that we are all saying that all the knives under discussion have their strong/weak points, and saying that Busse does not have any flaws and everyone who thinks they do, does because of "green eyed" jealousy is odd to me.

If you need a chopper, consider a Valiant Trading Co. golok.

Hand forged, full convex grind, cuts like a big ol' razor.

Just a quick question (in fact, I might have asked you before), have you ever compared the steels of the Cincinnatti (sp?) Machax with the one built by Camillus, and if so, what were your impressions?

Doc

Doc, I can't speak to this one. I do own some of the older Beckers, including a single Cincinatti Machax. But I've never used that one, and I won't own it much longer, as I'm shipping it off to a fellow who is a much bigger Machax afficionado than I am. I am, in fact, glad it's going to him, as it will fill a hole in an impressive collection of Becker Machaxes that I can never hope to rival.

I have, however, chopped a bit with my Camillus Machax user, and I have slightly mixed feelings about it. In its own right, it's a great chopping knife, and that ability has something to do with the khukuri shape. However, I think I'm a little spoiled by owning some very nice HI khuks, including a couple of Sgt. Khadkas (Ang Khola and Samsher). Those two are chopping monsters, though they're not nearly as portable as the Machax.

However, if you can still find any sort of Becker Machax at a decent price, it's worth the money. I'm hoping it's one of the first models that Ethan puts out over at Kabar.

Lastly, "your favorite" is quite a knife! How long/thick is that bad boy?

That one is the 2007 Special Edition Fusion Battle Mistress--a "special edition" knife that Busse offered first at Blade 2007 (where I bought mine) and then in one of its subsequent "Extravaganzaaaas." It is pretty thick at .275" and has a 10" blade.

I re-read my post and if I came off as having something to say about Guyon's post of all his choppers, I didn't mean to. I love seeing the pictures of everyone's knives. I seriously meant it as a joke Guyon.

No, no... I did not take your post in a bad light at all. I took it in the joking tone it was meant to convey.

I was really only trying to point out that I don't ONLY use Busses, even though they are my favorite knife line. I like to try choppers from all walks of production and discern their respective merits.

.

Just an observation. I do find many of the Busse fans over the top but they have a right to be. You read way too much into this. I use a few diff blades and have tried many. Its an opinion like everyone elses.

Just wondering if those mountains are in Tucson or Oro Valley or just in between?

Lived there for 5 years, just thinking you might be in my second home. It all looks familiar, just like the 3/4 stone under your subjects in your pics.

Very nice blade too.

Good Call! Rincoln/Catalina Range
