Chopping videos in HD, 29+ Knives, axe, hatchet and saws (+ new SARGE 7)

This should be a sticky or attached to the busse superiority thread that is stickied, this thread is awesome and full of info.

Thank you for the videos and info! Makes sense, and very educational! Please post more videos we are enjoying them very much!

Thank you.

Congrats on the B11. What do you think of it so far? I look forward to reading about your perspective on it.
This thread should be a sticky, it's fantastic.

I love the B-11! I haven't gotten out to really give it a whopping because I live in the city where people call the cops when you swing big knives around in your "back yard" (true story.) When I got it, I couldn't hold back though, so I destroyed a 2x4 with the B-11 and a B-10 on my back porch after it got dark out.

I've been planning to do an ultimate Res-C chopper review & comparison video when I have time to get out of the city. Also, I have to order a few more chopping lanyards for my B-11 & B-10s from DrBarnes.

I've got to say that as of now, I like the B-10 and B-11 equally. Each has subjective advantages over the other and in my brief run-in with the 2x4, there was no clear winner. I'll post a bit more about what I like about each as soon as I can.

ETA: Didn't see David Brown's post until after I posted. I completely agree that this should be stickied. Call it the ultimate Busse & Kin Chopper Comparison Thread.

I did contact Dan @ SPT , he wants me to send the knife for fitting.I will contact him again to see if he accepts to build around someone elses Kydex sheath and save me the hassle of shipping the knife..

I took, what I think will be the last chopping videos for a while. So for those of you who still have an interest:

Bark River Bravo 2
Becker BK7 (Camillus)
Busse ASH Wacker 6.5 Prototype
Busse Desert Storm Stealth Fighter (DSSF)
Busse Nuclear Meltdown Special Forces Natural Outlaw (NMSFNO)
Busse SARSquatch
Busse Search and Rescue 6 (SAR 6)
Busse Search and Rescue 8 (SAR 8)
Busse Special Forces Natural Outlaw (SFNO)
Fallkniven A2
Fehrman First Strike
Scrap Yard SYKCO Regulator
Swamp Rat Chopweiler

It may seem strange to include the SYKCO Regulator in here. I do not consider it a chopper as it is far too small and light. Frankly it is not the style of knife that appeals to me, but I bought it purely to try the handle as it looks so very comfortable. And my expectations were confirmed:

What stood out for me today was that I think the SYKCO Regulator handle has the potential to be a very good chopper handle. Of course it is hard to know how it will actually feel with a much longer and heavier blade but I think it should work well.

I am really hoping that the Bussekin companies will produce a line of choppers with this handle or a very similar one.

Bark River Bravo 2

The things I point out in the beginning are the factory modifications (ramp removed, rounded pommel / heel, rounded spine, rounded handles). The things I point out at the end are issues encountered during chopping.

Great videos, the whole lot of them. I've been watching for a while now, and I'm really liking what you're showing me. You're right about the NMSFNO though. It's heavy but not too heavy, and that does make it easy to use for a while. I find there aren't too many issues when I wear leather gloves as opposed to my mechanic's gloves. Great companions too. Just like my dogs, they want to be into whatever you're doing.

I can't believe I'm just now finding this thread. Great job! Makes me feel good about my very lightly used BM 171 that I bought 2 years ago for $200.

Great job, very informative ,how do you think a kukri would stack up? lets say CS kukri?

Thanks. I have posted a few more videos if you are interested but did not update this thread.

I have never used a Kukri so I have no experience but from what I have seen some Kukris are monster choppers.

Thanks for your excellent videos. It's nice to see knives go up against hatchets.....

Thanks again. I did something different today by chopping longer with each knife. I took down a 6" Gum tree with one knife and then chopped through the trunk with 2 other knives.

I have to apologize for the first chopping video, I think it is hard to watch because I was holding the camera in my hand while chopping. I did not have a tripod as I was not planning on making chopping videos. I was just going to film the kids and pups having fun in the woods and I was going to do some light chopping with my favorite choppers. But then I saw the dead gum tree and decided to take it down and film it and do some more chopping.

I also chopped high-up the tree, above my head, so not the most powerful strokes because I wanted to leave room on the trunk to chop with other knives. I will do that in future when I have a tripod but for today I just chopped through the fallen trunk with the others. I would have goth through it faster with the Browning had I chopped lower down and without holding the camera.

With the fallen trunk, ideally, after chopping halfway through, I would have wanted to turn it 180 deg and chop from the other end but the trunk was bent (higher up the tree) so it would not balance when turned. I could have used a wedge to stop it from rolling back but did not want to stop to create one. I did try to use the section I chopped off with the B11 as a wedge but it did not work. So this was not the ideal way to get through it but I got through it anyhow.

I disagree & I have hard time to understand why everybody want this Thread Sticky, when none Busse's knives doing much better than Busse knives!?

You're right about the NMSFNO though. It's heavy but not too heavy, and that does make it easy to use for a while.

Not, He AIN'T right about the NMSFNO..with 3 hot spots & blister? But He don't talk on the video because He don't want hurt nobody feeling...(my wild guess)

However, right now there's a thread about the best Busse knife for Survival...Its a bit controversial that the NMSFNO is on the Top of that list as the best knife chosen by the people!? Maybe because the NMSFNO is Cool or maybe because is very functional...

I find there aren't too many issues when I wear leather gloves as opposed to my mechanic's gloves.

I abandoned my leather gloves long time ago, now I use garden gloves 1.5 mm thick now.

Actually you are wrong in many respects.

The B11 is my preferred chopper and my favorite large knife. I currently have 6 B11s. That is what I carry most, not a non-Busse knife. If I have not said it in this thread, then I said it here:

My favorites

Also, I saw your comment about "the guy getting a blister in less than a minute", and I think it is a fair assumption that you were referring to my video. I think you should read more.

I made my comments clear re. the NMSFNO handle when you asked your question. The NMSFNO did not cause the blister and it did not do it in less than one minute as you implied. The hotspots and blisters were there from days of chopping prior to making these videos.

What I indicate on the videos are where I feel hotspots will develop with each knife over time. Some will develop fast, some will develop over an extended period of time.

If I recall I pointed to 2 hotspot areas on the NMSFNO, not 3. The one on the pinky because of the rear talon / heel which is common on most knives with an exposed pommel, Busse and non. I actually wrote that the angle on the NMSFNO heel is low so it was not as bad as others. The second is in the V area between the index finger and thumb. That is common on almost all knives, just a bit more pronounced on the NMSFNO because of the swell in that area.

Today I used the 3 most comfortable choppers and I have hotspots in exactly the same spots. I like the NMSFNO a lot, not as much as a SAR 8 but it is probably my second choice in that size range.

I also indicated which handles were the most uncomfortable, and it was not the NMSFNO. As a matter of fact, I have a custom shop NMSFNO with nice thick sculpted, rounded scales and I suspect that might turn out to be a very comfortable handle to use for chopping. I will test that soon.

Lastly, these videos are chopping videos, nothing more. The other thread is not "choose your best Busse chopper" thread. The fact that the NMSFNO is a popular choice as a single survival knife is not surprising. But if you think it is because it is the best chopper then you are sorely mistaken. I do not believe I have made any comments about the NMSFNO as a survival knife in this thread. I commented on its handle ergonomics.

These videos show me chopping with knives only, nothing more. They are not reviews and they focus on chopping, not a "choose one knife in a SHTF scenario", or for any other task, just chopping.

I do agree though that these videos themselves are not that informative and not worthy of much other than entertainment and maybe a bit more for some. They were intended to serve as memory aids for me to try and remember each knife's characteristics. But even though I was the one using the knives, there are many of the videos that do not provide even me with much information, much less others who did not do the chopping. But I thought I would share them anyway, and people can watch them or not and enjoy them or not, and ask me questions and I will answer them honestly, without any conscious bias to any brand or model.

Many people get blisters because they hold the knife to far behind on the handle...when necessity is not there.

I get zero blister with my NMSFNO because I do lock my hand with the knife and maybe you should do the same.

GEE, you find a hot spot even with SARsquatch too...ho man:eek:

I use a loose grip because I feel that I get more of a snapping action than when I grip it tight. Like a squash racket action vs a tennis racket action. That is why I prefer lighter choppers over heavier choppers. That is just a preference for me.

I grip the handle in the middle like in your 2nd pic. I do not like the lanyard method you use but I do agree that a forward lanyard makes a big difference. In reality I almost always use a forward lanyard - but not for testing.

Yes I am sure I will get hotspots with all knives after extended chopping, even a SARSquatch. I am not as tough as you are.

Again, the areas that I pointed out do not indicate where I DID get hotspots, they are areas where I expect hotspots to develop with extended use. Sometimes I point to areas that I want to modify with different scales or handle mods because I think it will be an improvement.

Yeah, lets be more realistic here...and say that with the right length time even a neutral handle ergonomic will give you blister!
