Chris Reeve Interview

Did anyone notice that the interviewer calls him "Chris Reeves" at the beginning and again at the end when stating his web address? I wonder if that annoys him at all. I have a friend named Suzanna and she gets annoyed if people call her Suzan.

Just a thought.

Well, if one watches the CRK DVD, one sees a whole other side to him, so yes, tired after 3 days of constantly on your feet, very understandable. Everyone would hate me after that amount of time in a crowded place.

I didn't see arrogance. I saw an older fella who seemed relieved to be going home soon after a long day--away from the crowds and questions and cameras. Mr.Reeve seemed to perk up when talking about his Umnumzaan; you could see his excitement. Makes me want one now...

Did Mr. Reeve engage the 'Zaan lock by pushing on the belly of the blade?!

It was a very cool interview. Glad to hear from such a talented knifemaker.

The psychoanalysis seems pointless, but nonetheless it seemed to me like CR was grudgingly agreeing to do something he said he would do even though the timing wasn't great and the reward for doing it was minimal.

It seemed like: "Aright, let's get this interview with the YouTube guy done. He is an okay lad and I'll help him out." Also, CR looked to have forgotten there was a camera on.

I'm surprised we're crucifying the interviewer. I think CR's demeanor may have thrown him off and most people aren't as knowledgeable as those around here.

Highlight for me was CR pronouncing Umnumzaan and explaining the name. Sounds like he knows Zulu, not just from a book.

I have known Chris and Anne for well over a decade now.

Have seen them at shows and have had dinner with them.

I could not agree more with JNewell. Arrogant does not even belong in the same sentence with those two fine people, but when I see him or Anne being bashed the term ignorance does come to mind.

It's obvious he's just dead dog tired and I can understand why.Taking all that stuff to Atlanta, setting it up and basicly being stuck there at the booth with all those people for 3 days is hard work.Just being in a crowded place to long makes me ill.

From personal experience, at Blade and at New York shows, I can tell you that Chris is very easy to talk to, smiling and friendly, and clearly enjoys talking about his knives. Of course, he is as close to my first stop on the first day of the shows as I can manage! :)

I just appreciate the opportunity, tired or not, to connect a face to the voice to the legendary products. I am glad to have also seen him beam over an Umnumzaan - my first CRK was a Wilson Combat/CRK 'Startac' 'zaan. Thank you for the lead.

I think it's interesting how he pronounces Umnumzaan.

Sounds like it should be spelled Oommmzaan instead of how I've been saying/reading it all this time as Um-num-zaan :o

As tired as he has to be it's neat seeing him perk up when the Umnumzaan gets brought up. I'd be excited too if 20+ years of work popped out a masterpiece like that and I got to talk about it :)

Those of us who grew up in Natal know how it should be pronounced:D

I didn't see one sign of arrogance in that interview.

Chris is a laid back type of fellow. I've talked to him at Blade a few times and really like his personallity. He's a laid back, straight shooting type of guy. He tells you exactly what he thinks in a calm way, and I appreciate that.

Honestly, there's not a single hint of arrogance in the whole interview.

Quite the opposite, actually. Most of us would be a lot less patient and courtuous after three long days (heck, two decades) of answering the same questions again and again. I can only imagine what "knife experts" he has to deal with regularly.

Laid back and straight shooting are the appropriate words here, and I might add legendary.

The "arrogance" suggestion still bothers me. Anyone who picks up the phone at his business and answers stupid questions from ordinary Joes like me (as Mr. Reeve has done) with patience and good humor is anything but arrogant.

After viewing the video,I wondered how anyone could call him arrogant. Perhaps ukknifer is used to a different dialect, a different pronunciation. I know I often find British accents all but impenetrable.
