Chris reeve knives :: Large sebenza 25 micarta

I really don't like the 25 with inlays but I can't put my finger on it but it looks wrong.

I saw a previous post that the inlay was fastened with double sided tape. How well
is the inlay's attached? Any risk of them falling of?

No. Search the web, its not an issue. I have yet to see a photo of this on an original CRK. Its the same stuff they put the badges on a car with, which see extreme heat, cold, vibration, chemical attack, UV radiation, roadsalt, etc. Sure some badges fell off your 1988 Plymouth Tourismo 2.2, but those were different times. ;) From what I understand the bond between the inlays and the slabs actually grows stronger with time. And of course, it would be covered by warranty if it did happen.

Thanks for the information, kidcongo. I would like to know brand name if someone has that information, I could probable use this in my work as a mechanical design engineer.

I own CRK's and admire their precision and quality, but the design aesthetics of many of their knives, including this one, do not reach the same level as the mechanical design. Some CRK's, especially the graphics, are outdated at best. I believe CRK needs to hire a new design team.

That's some good stuff right there. No chance the inlays are gonna fall out, that's for sure.

Boy, do I second this. The superb mechanics and functionality are unlike anything I've experienced with a knife - Leica and Rolex analogies come to mind. But the aesthetics on some of them really don't match the same high level. I have a couple CRk models that I have this problem with (love the mechanics, luke warm on design). If the Leica, Apple, plus a few others of the same ilk design gurus could consult for them, they could dramatically increase sales. Not that increasing sales is a concern to them I guess.

I guess if you want to lash a couple 18 wheelers to your CRK inlays you can:

Impressive !
No wonder we've never heard of an inlay coming off.

I bought a new 25 when it first came out and it had a super late lock-up (80-90%) that could not be reduced no matter what. CRK said it was fine but it still bugged me. Ended up selling the 25 for a Large 21 Micarta (w/ 25% lock-up).

Prefer the feel of the micarta over plain after now having both.

Now had the 25 Micarta been available, it might have been a different story.

However...

The inlays in the 21 look like they "fit" the design better. They're parallel between each other unlike the 25's where the smaller one has a curved side adjacent to the large one's curved side where IMO both should be straight and be parallel to each other.

Nevertheless, either one is a keeper for life.

I agree. I never worried much, but in the back of my mind I always thought that the wording seemed a little weak (double sided tape).

I guess I dismissed this after pondering the seeming fact that no one (Or very few) was popping out their inlays and pimping some carbon fiber in there. (I wonder if Chris ever reads this stuff, CF inlays might be interesting;))

I just ran across this thread while looking some stuff up via Google. I know it's an old one but I thought it was worth a bump just for the 3M demonstration video. It was riveting :D

Maybe we have you to thank for these exclusive beauties from Blade HQ.
