Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 25 "The One"

Thanks Tim for taking the time to not only read the post but comment on it!! I really appreciate your input. And please do share your 25 with the rest of us!!
All the best, Dave
That's a great thread Dave well done! I'll have to check my 25's birthdate and scale date when I get home tonight. I think I PMed Rich a while ago asking some of the same questions about my 25. Course I can't remember right now. Anyways I'll get back later. Sorry I forgot to say congrats!
Tim

If you asked here I probably replied but if you asked through YouTube I've been having trouble answering since they changed to Google+
Either way I hope I answered any questions that you may have asked, and sorry if I never replied :(

I knew the answer to your question about the production dates of the pressed pin but sleep deprivation from the baby has me hazy at the moment- let me try to get the gray matter turning anyway.
If I remember correctly the second run of 25's released was in February, they still had the pressed stop pins but lacked the grooves. I believe that the third run had early June production dates ( I have one from June 6th ) and that was the first batch released without the pressed stop pin.
The chamfered lock bar face that removed the sharp corner was started with the Feb (2nd) batch although there's one out there( my old one ) that is from the first 30 that has the chamfer because I had sent it in to get new screws when one of the screws broke ( known problem from that batch ) and while it was there I requested that they chamfer that corner and they were kind enough to oblige.
There's at least one from the first 30 out there that has a scale from the prototype knives and a scale from the first 30 batch together, you'll know it by the different chamfers cut in the back of the knife for the lanyard. I have a YT vid up showing it where I compare it to a "standard" first 30 knife- thanks to my friend Blackend for letting me use his knife in my vid so that I could compare it to mine.
I wish that he never sold that knife- so that I could've bought it ;)

I think that covers it,
Great post Dave and congrats.

If you were able to rotate the stop pin just a fraction of an inch, the blade would not open or close if you put it back together wrong. It has to be perfect, or else the clearance won't be there, hence why they don't want you to remove it.

Thank you Pat!! if you had not sold your 25 to Rich who did that great video on it a lot of this information would not even been available!! I would love to see some photos of a "user" Prototype 25!! That's awesome!!
All the best, Dave

Awesome brother! Was reading just to hear your thoughts and thought "oh yeah" I had one! Ha thanks for the shout out! If it wasn't for my fellow blade brother HughesTMH he was gracious after purchasing the 25 proto to sell me his production 25 as it was shipping to his door! He amazingly uses the proto all the time as an EDC. I might need to buy another soon. Great write up! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Rich!! But as you know most of the information I have shared here and you have graciously added to is taken from your great video!! Many thanks brother!!

You're very welcome my friend.
It's very satisfying to know who that one guy was that watched that vid 3,762 times, I'm glad that it helped you out :)

Have you picked one beauty from your collection yet that your going to use ? That 25 would've a good candidate.

Rich you did answer my questions so no worries. And Dave I'm on the hunt for my next CRK, so I'm going to give you my money and you can buy the next one for me. Only because you seem to attract some really great knives! Your collection blows me away. Just think of the ones I don't know about!

LOL LOL I thought I watched it more than 3,762 times!! The counter must be off!! And regrettably no.. if I do pick one you will be the first know brother!!
Lets get Rich some more views on his 25 video!!

Mine has a DOB of May 30, 2013, and has screws on both sides of the stop pin and no grooves on the stop pin.

Thanks Tim!! I appreciate your kind words!

Thanks dude!! I appreciate it!! As far as the advantage of the press fit stop pin I don't think I am qualified to answer that question (I know I'm not) maybe my good friend Cody (kidcongo) would like to address that. He recently posted a thread "A tale of three pivots. Dispelling some myths about CRK folders (maybe)" and I noticed that he had not removed the piviot screw on the lock side of his 25. His response "You are right Dave, my 25 has the newer screwed-in stop pin, not the press fit. I do not remove it because I can't!!!!...and lord knows I've tried!!! CRK put so much lock-tight on that screw, and torqued the living daylights out of it on the lock-bar side that the only way I could remove it would be to use pliers and scratch everything up." makes me wonder why.... by using lock-tight CRK is apparently accomplishing the same thing (making it difficult to remove the stop pin screw) so it may just be a cost saving measure? As far as being a "collector's" thing.. I would say the fact that it is different than current production models does make it more desirable for the collector.
All the best, Dave

I heard they had some issues with the press-fit stop pin, but can't remember what they were. The 25 stop pin is not round. It has a flat spot that faces the blade. My guess as to why they originally went for the press fit, was to prevent confusion when the knife is put back together. If the stop pin does not face the blade, the knife will jam. I can imagine all the warranty calls flooding the shop. At some point they maybe decided this was not an issue and moved to a normal two-scew type arrangement, which is what my knife has. The stop pin still has the flat spot. I suppose I could take it apart and put it back together wrong, as the pin is no longer keyed to the slab. Having said all this, my 25 came with the lock side stop pin screw torqued so tight, or so lock tighted, that I've never bothered or been able to remove it. This is fine with me as I never worry about aligning it with the blade. I just leave it attached to the lock-side during maintenance.

BTW Dave......nice score on the 25. I like mine a lot. I have to carry it a bit more before I'll really know my opinion, but this week was an Umnum week, and I'm thinking next week will be as well! After that I'll get back to the 25 and her subtle curves.

As always thanks for the great information Cody!! And of course for your always interesting and informative posts!

Mike, Great thread! My 25 was from the second shipment ever of the 25. It focused on people that put in direct orders with CRK. The first 29 went out to dealers. I was the first to put in an order with CRK the day the knife was announced at Blade. It was a long wait but well worth it. My birth date is Jan 31st 2013. Of course mine has the press fit stop pin but it also has something else! This thread needs more pics! Quake

Ours have the same birthday! Haha that's cool.. Also, is that CF scale made by Barry H? He made me the very first one, last year. I ended up selling it, and watched it change a few hands down the road..

That is pretty cool indeed. Also for full disclosure this is not my seb 25 but my daughters. She is only 21months and doesn't realize it yet but I wanted to make that clear.:) It is a custom Barry-H scale. He is a wizard with CF.

1AbominAble, the pics I posted are of your knife that I purchased.
