I just purchased a carbon fiber small sebenza that was made in December and the lock up is at like 85%. Theres no way I'm pay for high end quality if the knife still isn't going to last as long as some $100 knives becuz the lock bar is going to go to 100% earlier. I don't care how long it's going to stay at 85%. There's no reason for me to pay the money I did for it if the lockbar wont be replaced if it ever expires. There's nothing to debate here. This is my opinion and that debating that or convincing me otherwise is not what's going to happen here.

SO... if say 5 or 10 years from now, the lock bar goes all the way past 100% and I start getting lock rock, will Chris Reeves replace the lock bar/frame for free? Will he replace it at all? Even if the 21 is way out of production? I've always been curious about this and now I'm even more curious about this.

First lets take a chill pill

CRK locks are done late on purpose so that they dont fail, personally the only people who like early lock up are the ones who buy high end customs that will never see any use. If you are wondering what happens when the lock inevitably go to %100 and creates lock rock then I would assume CRK has some remedy for that. Strider replaces their stop pins so maybe CRK does the same. If not then I would assume they replace the whole TI slab. I would advice you just send them an email.

How does something go past 100%? You understand how percentages work, right?

These comments are all why I prefaced my question with what I did. Unfortuately, I forgot to explain to someone what past 100% meant and I forgot to mention that I know that Chris Reeve lockup is late. But also, of all the Chris Reeves I've owned I've never had one with lockup this late.

SO regardless of how late the lockup is...say that in 5-10 years ...OR LATER does anyone HERE know what Chris Reeves will do if the knife is in or out of production and the lockbar "expires". I assume someone on here has had expirience with this or knows.

Take a breath take a deep breath....

Did you buy this new from a reputable dealer or someone with good feedback?
Have you called CS at Chris Reeve ?

If not you need to call them no one is perfect I am sure if there is a problem then they will fix it

The fix is that you receive a slightly larger stop pin, by the way.
HEY Thanks! I new this place has knowledgeable people and I could get a straight answer way quicker than waiting for Chris Reeves to open up tomorrow. Thanks. Now I feel comfortable carring the knife to work tomorrow!

No I did not buy this new but I also don't think it's a problem...yet. If the problem can be fixed free of charge once it becomes a problem, I am not as concerned.

If it's not up to your standards in terms of lock engagement why don't you just return it, and rather than speculate why not wait about 12 hours and CALL them?

The answer is in the box... ;)

If I ever wear out one of my CRKs lockbars, I'll get back to you on their lifetime warranty.

It is a CRK, IF it ever develops they will take care of it.

Happen to be able to put up a pic of the lockup?

FYI, a lock bar wearing out has nothing to do with a defect or faulty workmanship or materials. I am also not the original owner. SOOOO according to that warranty, I got nothin. But the main thing I was concerned with was whether or not they had a fix. Since they do, that's cool. Although I would really prefer them not to charge anything to fix a worn lockbar, I cant imagine that a new/bigger stop pin would cost a ton of money. and I've heard that CRK does tend to charge money for fixes and resurfacing just so the process isn't abused. Although, I really don't like that statement in the warranty about original user. At least I have the unfilled out warranty card still! I don't feel guilty about it either since the knife was only kept by the original user for a few days.

I really like the knife and the seller doesn't deserve the knife back, and I don't want to have to resell it and get a different one. The knife is in good shape and there is nothing wrong with the lockup. It currently locks up fine. It's just a little later than I like. ...even for a CRK.

It does in my book. But I won't know if Mr.Reeve feels the same unless I attempt to use his warranty. I don't really expect to. I do understand your concerns though. It is an expensive knife.

All the best, OP! :)

CRK has fixed this for many people when the cause is long-term use (and it usually takes 15-20 years for it to become a problem). What I feel is the general rule for CRK customer service is that if you did not create a big problem by abusing the knife, they will take care of it, and even if you did abuse the knife, more often than not they will fix the problem.

I naturally want to think that everything will be ok and Chris will have me covered. You at least know a little bit that you are buying the right product when you have that feeling even though you haven't had to make a claim yet. Being the "small"
knife company that he is and given the care that he puts into his knives....and given the fact that he uses the term, "a knife for life" you would think that he has a contingency plan for lock bar failures because lockbar failures are inevitable on a ti frame lock.

Mr.Reeve pays keen attention to detail. I doubt he'd offer a lifetime warranty expecting his products to have a very short 'shelf life.' Or expecting his customers to have a lifespan of a fruit fly... :D I think you'll be ok. But if you're uneasy, I'm sure you can sell it off quickly and move on to something else. Plenty o' other nice knives to be had out there!
