Chris@SOG...

Also, so you guys know where I am in this process;

So far I've been taking it pretty easy with these knives, mostly gathering information and doing light testing. Tomorrow I'll be getting the Revolver back from my friend and he'll tell me his impressions of the knife.

At some point this week, I'm going to do some pretty strenuous cutting tests with the Salute to see how the edge holds up and to see how well the lock stands up under prolonged cutting conditions. This is one of many nights I'm going to devote to doing strenuous cutting with both knives. The tests will be to see how locking mechanisms hold up, how the edge retention does, how easily the edge is repaired, etc.

The Salute is actually being tested against a Kershaw of almost the exact same size. The knives are similar enough to make for a good comparison. It will be interesting to see how they perform the same tasks considering the MSRP difference between the two.

Interesting, which Kershaw are you comparing it to if you don't mind, it would probably give me a better idea on the size of the Salute since SOG products are almost foreign to me.

I'm using the Kershaw JYDII. I was actually EDCing the JYD before I got the Salute to test out. I love that knife. I don't think it gets enough love from the folder crowd.

That knife is on the top of my list of all time favorite blades, I purchased a JYD and loved it so much I later purchased a JYDII with titanium handles and SG2 blade, then I picked up a JYDII SG2/Ti blem and got a low riding clip from STR for it. The clip made it see 10x more pocket carry.

The Salute turns out to be bigger than I thought it would be, thanks :thumbup:

Hey Dylan, I finally got around to emailing you back. Sorry for the delay. Good luck with your testing. :) Email me if you need anything else. Thanks,

Heber

@Dylside

Are you gonna make a review thread when youre done testing or just update this one?

When I'm all done, I'm going to put together an article complete with pictures and my thorough review. First, I'm going to send it to Chris to verify all the technical specs and make sure I didn't quote any of the specs, names, etc. incorrectly, and also to make sure that symbols, such as Trademark are used correctly where they are required. This is the only thing they're checking. Chris and I agreed at the beginning that he will not have any influence on the review itself or any of the opinions expressed. Everyone at SOG knows that even if the review is not in their favor, it is getting posted and will be public to view. Those were the stipulations when we started. After the technical specs are checked, I'll publish the article here in a new thread.

Update on progress:
I've gathered specific material information for the parts in both knives. I've been carrying the folder they sent me, the Fusion Salute, every single day since I received it and using it daily. I decided to get a good feel for it's daily use for a while before I did any strenuous cutting tests, just in case. I have yet to sharpen it a single time. The Hunter Revolver has been through several "everyday" cutting tests and I have also been talking to a couple of people who own the original Revolver to compare the original model with this new Fusion model. It has yet to be sharpened as well. After the holidays are over, both models will go through more strenuous testing to see how they hold up under really heavy use as well as sharpening tests. The Hunter Revolver is going to get a good workout on a camping trip and a hunting trip, both in the beginning of January. After that, all the findings and information will be put together and given to SOG for review and any necessary corrections.

Update:

I'm compiling everything now. Should have everything finished up and sent off to Chris for checking the specs within the next day or so. It was fun testing these knives. I didn't get a chance to do everything I wanted to with them, but I did get to do more than enough to get a good feel for them. Review to come SOON!

Just giving you guys a heads up. I'm finally done writing. Jesus, my head is about to split open. As is my usual theme, this review is long, but very thorough. Hopefully people can read through the whole thing without losing interest. I just proof read it about 10 times and now I never want to see it again. lol I'm going to email it to Chris tomorrow for any corrections. Hopefully I'll be getting the pictures my friend took from her in a day or two and then I'll post the whole thing.

Okie dokie! I got the pictures today. They look pretty good. I'm going to pick out and resize the ones I'm using for the review tonight and I'll post the whole review when I'm done. SO CHECK IN TOMORROW CAUSE IT'LL BE HERE!
