Christmas Eve Gift 2011 - Winner: ranchmanben

When I was a kid the whole family would get together on Xmas Eve at Grandmas house......The good ole days running around with all my cousins! This is a great idea.....fingers crossed.

Thanks for the chance, if I'll win it will be my first time to have Christmas gift, but on the other hand I'm getting Hanuka gifts :D

Thanks for the chance Ed. Very generous way to get closer to Christmas. After all, a Gift (to men) is the deep meaning of this day, and the reason for the season as you wrote. :)
It's interesting how some traditions are spread all over the world.
In my family, we've always given away Christmas gifts on the night of Dec 24th (although more often than not we would actually open them after midnight).
But, in a family that's very close to mine, they have the same tradition that you described; I've been there a couple of times and I have to say it's very funny to play the ambush game. In the family there used to be (not here anymore) an old single wealthy woman that was the target of the greedy teenagers of the family :D but, as a general rule, people took that game as a chance to get "closer" (emotionally) to members of the family with whom they had less contact. Like tying a looser knot. I always found it very nice. Also, on one of these two occasions, the gift I gave away was a knife (a Vic Classic).
So, I'd like to enter the giveaway, and thank you alot for your generosity.
It would also be nice if, as for any Christmas gift, the knife remained "secret" until the winner opens it.

NOT AN ENTRY thanks very much Ed, I know there are others out there who have many fewer Traditional knives than I do&I'd like to give them the chance.

Over here in Finland&the the rest of Scandiland, we celebrate and exchange presents on Christmas Eve anyway. :D Yuletide greetings to all forum members around the world, whatever their beliefs:thumbup:

Please count me in. And, thank you for your generosity.

This is the first I've heard of your famiy's tradition. Sometimes we opened one present on Christmas Eve, sometimes we did not.

The tradition my wife has is to hit as many Candlelight services Christmas Eve. We especially try to catch the "midnight" (really 11 pm with a midnight conclusion) service at a Brethern Church down the road a bit. Very nice service and get to sing all the old carols. We're going to my folks this year so will have to make due with the services over there but it will be good to be together with my family for a holiday. Work often interfers with anything other than just my wife and I being together.

Merry Christmas in advance.

Merry Christmas you guys :)

We never celebrated Christmas on 25th. Here in Germany it´s usual to give the presents and all the stuff on Eve. I have the qualification, so count me in. Please!

Kind regards
Andi

We used to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve. Only the gifts that we, as children, bought for each other. We'd open the gifts from Mom and Dad or "Santa" on Christmas morning. There were no games like this, though.

These days, we are still trying to find out the best way to open gifts so that everyone can see what the other got. The grand-kids (my neices and nephews and kids) don't care who got what. They just love to rip open the ones for themselves. My siblings and their spouses want to see what everyone got from whom. We might do the little ones' gifts on Christmas Eve, and then wait for the adults 'til Christmas morning.

My immediate family, (wife and kids) usually open our gifts 2-3 days before Christmas, as we have our own little celebration before we travel to Mom and Dad's. :SPOILER ALERT: Of course the kids know there is no Santa, (You knew this, right?) so this doesn't interfere with that idea.

Anyway, thanks for the generosity of this gift! Hope you have fun on Christmas Eve. I'll be interested to see what the knife was.

My family has never done the christmas eve gift that I can remember.

My wife had that tradition in her family, and we do it now.

I would love to enter the contest. Thanks.

Merry Christmas to all!

Hey guys. I'm going to step in here and ask that religious references be kept out of the thread, from this point forward. If you have any questions you can refer to the "Guidelines" sticky or feel free to PM me. Thanks for your cooperation.

My dad started a Christmas Eve gift tradition back when I was around 8 or so. Prior to then we were fairly poor, but he had become a journeyman electrician around that time which made a huge difference in our standard of living. He was just fooling around that year and had mom and I pick something out from under the tree to open before going to church on Christmas Eve. It stuck and we did that every Christmas thereafter until he passed away.

That is very generous of you, thank you. I love to see this on a forum, it shows a true sense of community which I have noticed in the few weeks that I have been posting here. I see similar things on a watch forum that I moderate, which is probably why I post in this forum more often than the other forums here.

Merry Christmas,

Griff

I will give this one a go. I usually spend my Christmas Eve with my parents, and Christmas Day with the kids. We usually go see a movie on Christmas Day. The following week, I get to see my sisters, brother, and their kids.

Seasons Greetings to all of you here.

I would love to be in on this Giveaway!! Thanks for the chance and Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!!!

Id like to be included. Thanks for the chance, and Merry Christmas everyone.

I really want to thank you for a chance at this giveaway. Times are tough these days....I'm sure just liked all the other fathers here, we would rather spoil the kids and the wife then buy ourselves something! Good luck to everybody!

I'm in Ed, thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

It's funny, I thought the "Christmas Eve Gift" tradition only existed in my family. Glad to hear that other family's take part in the tradition as well.
