I really like the idea of entering with a finished knife. In the past, I have made the knife tailored to the user. A hunting guide got a hunting knife, younger newbie got an EDC, etc. The idea of a bunch of guys making a knife and putting it in a box, entering the KITH, and sending it to a previously unknown recipient makes this more random, and much more on time.
I am willing to set up and run this years KITH
Here is my proposal:
Everyone who is interested will make a knife of their choosing.
They will complete the knife by December 1, 2009.
They will box the knife for shipping.
After the knife is done and ready to ship, they will enter the KITH ( no later than Dec. 1.)
I will generate mailing labels for all entrants, and send a label to each entrant by Dec 15. The label will be affixed to the box and the knife shipped ( insured and delivery confirmation highly recommended) as soon as the label is received.
DETAILS:
Any style knife, sword, hawk, axe, etc. is eligible. It should hand made by the sender, and be of the quality that he/she is able to produce. Outside services are fine ( water jet, HT, etc.), as long as the knife is your work. The knife should be of a level that you would deem suitable for this KITH. If you are just starting, and your knives are not ready for use by others yet, sit this year out. However, if you feel that your knife would be suitable, then by all means enter. We are not all of the same level, and this is a Christmas exchange, not a swap meet. Every knife should be received as a gift ,just as every knife should be sent in the same spirit. It is not about what value you will get back for the value you put in.
Any maker in any country is eligible. We have had knives shipped from all over the world.
Do not enter unless your knife is done and in the box. Not if it is almost done, or will be done in a couple days, or just needs.......
The sending of labels will be by random draw, and with the exception of assuring you don't get your own label, I won't have any influence over who gets whose.
I will set up a thread to post build info and photos around October 1,2009.
This will help get everyone moving on finishing the knives in time.
You have six months from today to get a knife done and enter, but it would be nice to know who is PLANNING on entering .
Post on the new thread , "I'm In", and send me an email ,sapelt@cox.net , if you are planning on entering this years KITH.
