As a knifenut Christmas morning is almost as great as Halloween for blade usage. Think about all those clampacks, boxes and sealted packages....a rare chance when non-knife people look to you and as if they can borrow your knife.

I figure I'll have either my Opinel 8, Leatherman Wave, or my M16-04Z

So my question to you is what will you have with you on the big day? :)

My Spyderco Dodo for the clampacks (best clampack knife I've ever used) and my Victorinox Tinker for installing batteries/putting stuff together.

I'll be using a Tanto SnG and no one will be borrowing it.:grumpy: :p It's my current fav cuz I have it sharp as the dickens. I'd take something better (a different Strider) but I'm the only one who would notice the difference anyway so it seems like a waste.

Probably my Boker Kalashnikov. "wow" inspiring action, very useful blade shape, sheeple friendly size.

I'll have my 2 EDC's (Benchmade 805s & 721s) for the "normal" packages, and either my Cold Steel Trailmaster Bowie (or a Stihl chainsaw) to hack away at the tough ones.

My Spyderco SS SE Cricket, and also a small pair of wire cutters near by - knives are great for opening packages and clamshells and stuff, but those Barbie horses come tied up with 10 or more twist-tie thingies.

Can you tell I have 3 daughters?

BRKT Fieldsman 11,with anique stag for the small jobs and my BRKT Rogue Bowie with burl for the big stuff:eek: :)

Same as every Christmas, my Leatherman. This year, though, the old Wave will be replaced by the one I got as a gift last Christmas, the Charge Ti.

The serrated sheepsfoot blade saws through clam-packs well, and the lack of a point keeps folks from poking where they don't mean to.

The scissors, while often derided as small, are gawd-awful sharp and sturdy, and make mincemeat outta those damnable twist- and zip-ties everything's tied down with.

And for those gifts for which "some assembly is required", I think I'm pretty well covered with the bit-driver and dozen bits I have in the sheath.

Spydie Lil Temperance, trialing point. And my Dodo. And maybe my Busse for big jobs... That should cover everything.

I would just use one of my normal EDC knives, (Currently an Emerson CQC-13, and a Hankins custom fixed blade) But....I'll probably scale down to my Tinker on Christmas day. It usually goes something like this:

Father:"Hey, there's a package that needs opening...lemme get my..."

RWS: "SNAP!" here ya' go, be careful, it's sharp!

Father: "Huh. shoulda known he'd have some kinda Rambo Bambo Ninja Death Knife....What kind is this one? What the hell do you use it for? "Man it sure is big!" How much you pay for it? Holy Sh!t! that's way more than I could afford for a damn knife! (says the man with a motorhome, airplane, snowmachine, cabin, two trucks, a car and four boats)

RWS: (at the appropriate intervals) It's a Lonewolf T-2 Harsey. I use it to cut things. It's nicely sized for my hands and the work I do. Well, I kinda think ya' get what ya' pay for. Huh...well...I guess we all have priorities.

Oh, and if the word "tactical" is mentioned, there's usually some dialogue about not seeing or needing any of that crazy crap while in Vietnam, Korea, or the Police Department.

As you can imagine, I like to save myself from such dialogue, therefore I tend to keep my normal stuff put away, and stick with ye ole humble Tinker. Unless conversation gets dull, then I drag a Khukuri or somethin' outta the truck...:D

My new Spyderco Mini-Persian and possibly a Spyderco Rescue so I don't need to worry about someone jamming the tip through their hand. It should be great for "sawin'" open those frigging clamshells.

Probably these,

Sebenza, Large, Classic
Spyderco Dodo
Leatheman Wave

When people see me slice into packages with the Sebenza (it's a 'large' knife to them, I'm the only family knife knut) no one bothers my toys..........not even the kids :)

My large classic Sebenza with micarta inlay: it’s my trusted EDC, and it is with me every day.
