Great looking knife Gary! Good luck with that resolution thing.

Very nice sow there Gary and you captured it's beauty very nicely.:thumbup::)

I would not want to bear that kind of pressure - regarding the resolution thing.

Beautiful knife. Good luck with your resolution. I just don't think I could pull it off. Too many choices.

Thanks guys, used her a bit today, mostly this morning starting the wood stove up, cutting up some cardboard to start the wood on fire, worked and handled very nicely!

I did check with Lloyds of London but for them to check my personage each morning, the fee was just too great, so, you will have to take my word for that :)

The handles on that sowbelly are downright awesome. Colors, contrast, and jigging is really done well.

Thanks, I'm tempted right now to lower the sheepsfoot blade just a tad to keep the profile lower when using the main blade, it could drop about a 1mm or so by gently grinding down the kick, may attempt that change right now :)

edited to say on second thought, I'll leave that sheepsfoot as she sits, doesn't harm anything and isn't too high at least for the moment.

That's a gorgeous sowbelly, Gary!! Good luck with your resolution; for me, working on some self-discipline now and then, even if I'm not always successful, is a useful practice. I'm currently at 2 weeks without a cigar, after smoking 2 (or more) a day for about 45 years, and so far, after the first couple of days, it's been far easier than I thought it would be. I had purchased 160 pieces of nicotine gum to facilitate the quitting, and used 2 pieces! Of course, the whole time I've been visiting my daughter in Spain; the real test will come when I get back home to long-established routines that have to be changed.

Earlier this year, I found out how attractive the sowbelly stockman pattern can be. I typically carry the same 3 knives every day, and then have the rest of my knives on a weekly rotation. Last fall sometime, it was a Rough Rider sowbelly stockman's turn for a week in my pocket, and for reasons I still can't explain, I couldn't get that knife to give up my pocket for almost a month. Just really liked that pattern, and can't explain it; I suppose the shape of the knife really feels good to me, the size is right, and I've always liked the versatility that 3 stockman blades provide.

Anyway, IMHO you picked a knife for your resolution that should give you a great chance at success!!

Thanks guys, and Luke, grow that beard sir!

So far so good, while it doesn't have super steel, it needs a touch up now and then, it does get very sharp! I took some very fine sand paper to the bolsters last night as the nickel polished bolsters are fingerprint magnets and also show any small scratch right away. This brushed finish is easy to apply and easy to maintain. Just take a small pad of the sand paper and thumb it straight away from the scales to the end of the bolster, keeping in a nice straight pattern.

So far it's not been too hard to live with this one knife, of course the folks at work are worried about me :) as they do know how I am !
The blade shapes and sizes seem to work out well, the spey blade is the toughest of the three, I may convert that to a pen blade I'm thinking, shouldn't be too hard to do.

Gary,
good luck with your resolution. I have found out that sometimes these things work better when they happen naturally, rather than self imposed, but this is a special gift, and therefore a special slipjoint. Also, your sowbelly is indeed a very nice knife, and even though I'm not really looking for more knives, I've been tempted by the single bladed version more than once

Thanks Fausto that rings true :) and thanks BigF she is indeed a beauty...

But, I couldn't continue with the sheepsfoot being up so proud of the rest of the pack, so, I ground down the kick as I've read some others have done, also flattened the swedge slightly so it isn't as crisp when gripping the knife with the main blade out. I took it real slow, checking often for how much further I could drop it down and this suits me fine, here is a before shot of height of the sheepsfoot and a few after the operation;

I didn't have presence of mind to take a before shot of the kick, but picture it coming out to form a triangle and I clipped off the tip;

It's much handier in the hand now and also the pocket as well :)

People should be ashamed of encouraging Gary in his" weird and anti knife" resolution :D:D.
He should be encouraged to carry at least 2 or more knives daily.
Gary, please do come back from the dark side, Sir :D.

Aye, weird and abstract I be, but, there are stranger things than this peculiar resolution, so far it's been a few days, I've found myself digging for other knives :( only to remind myself...they ain't there :) but the Sowbelly didn't have any trouble with what needed to be cut !

I'll see how it goes for a few more days, and figure out if I can really hang in there for a full month with just one folder.

My guess is, at the end of the month, I may not want to really switch out with another!

The folks couldn't figure out how nice I ground down the middle blade to fit as well as it did, then I explained that I didn't grind the spine of the blade down, just the kick so it would lower the blade further into the handle, they all went Ahhhhh :)

Much nicer this way, glad I didn't wait to long to do so. I used the Worksharp Ken Onion model to grind it down, very handy tool that !

I think there should be some kind of Forum emergency quick response intervention squad for these sort of situations .
If it can happen to Gary then what hope is there for the rest of us .

Alright Alright calm down everyone nothing to be seen here!
He's actually carrying 3 knives in one.:)
This is the same sow belly I gave my son for his 22nd birthday.
He completely forgot my 50th last year as well as his young brothers' birthdays and my wifes (being 22 and living in NZ it wasn't unexpected)-just glad to see him doing well.
But hey -lead by example.
I had to keep telling myself that or I would have kept it.
I'll probably get one anyway.Or the large stockman. Decisions ,decisions.
Your excellent pics are to blame Gary.:)

Thanks meako, at least YOU understand ;) and Ken, I don't know if there is any hope/help yet for me, as I'm as fickle as a teenage girl sometimes :)
