Maybe it was my lucky day. I won the bid more or less by accident on a wood handled 301 with Chuck Buck signature on it. I got it for less than $30.00,way less. I can't tell from the photos if it is cherry or rosewood. Although I have a lot of Bucks, I know more about Schrade USA knives since I have been collecting them longer. Could some of you tell me a little about this knife. Was it part of the chairman series? Was it 420HC steel? When was it made?

note*Pardon my mistake in the title of the post. It's should read Chuck Buck Signed 301 Stockman not cadet. Used to be able to change the tile in edit. not sure how now. I must have been thinking I'd like a wood scaled 303 cadet too:) Ah but if it weren't for the wife.

My Chairman Series 302 Solitaire (on top) is cherry, nickle silver bolsters, 420HC and stamped 2014.

Hope I got a legit one. It doesn't show as having a buck shield on the side opposite the signature. From stampings I think it's legit. Has a left pointing arrow so made in 2010?

Did you buy this thinking it was a actual signature on the scale. It is but it is laser cut. Lots of these have been made your cost is still a bargain. It is a unusual version with no shield, reason could be one of a handful. Collector or user is your call. Shield usually on tang stamp side as shown by BuckShack. 300

300Bucks what is your guess as to why there is no shield? Think Buck would put one on if I sent it to them?

It does seem unusual without a shield, but yours is an earlier year than mine (yes 2010). Maybe that was normal, I really don't know for sure.

Could be several reasons, but not designed in that manner. The obvious reply is that the scales got mixed up on installation.
From end run, end of shift, end of good sense. It is less likely to be a design for some special order that didn't want a shield, those usually had some company logo somewhere on knife as a give away. Also as a 2010 it could be a end run of knives that was destined to be a "Missionary knife" that Chuck liked to supply to missionaries in rural foreign lands. I have a couple of black sawcuts I bought at gun show with two black sawcut sides both with shields and one with shield on wrong side. In the past they would grind a notch in the bolster end to show it as a missionary knife. But I think they quit doing that by 2010. As with the LLBean thread, someone who never went to the field, might try to return one for repayment that was the notch reason. Just saying......You might explain you bought it in a normal sale and they would just send you a new one........as always if you had a box the code will often tell the story.......Almost all modern wood scaled 300's are laminate scale, look at the edges.........300

Oh I like the cherry wood over the rosewood and especially like the nickel bolsters over the brass so wouldn't want them to swap it out. I can't have gone wrong for 24.50 plus nominal shipping. When I get it next week I'll call or email to see if they would put a shield on it. All they can say is no. Might email Joe houser and ask him. Don't know if it would do any better or any good.

Well I already have a black 301 and 303 and 302 but wanted a wood scaled Buck so now I have one in any event. I know they are tough slip joints.

You do have a point there Desotsky. I guess I was thinking the shield is part of it saying Buck. After looking again at the pics, it looks like the scale with the signature was meant to go on the other side. On the pic of Buckshack knife the Buck part of signature is facing the end bolster. On mine the Buck part of the signature is facing the front bolster and stamped blade. Looks like assembler put on the wrong side and it went thru. 300 Bucks mention as a user or collectible. Unfortunately there are no kids to pass on to so it will be a user as all mine knives are, although they are so well taken care of they could pass for almost new.

That is a likely scenario on the sides. It might have even gone out of our store as a Factory Blem and then re-sold..

DeSoto, you changed your avatar, I had to read the name to see who it was. Kinda flashy...Looks good, shows up good on the screen...

Mr. Hubbard, I've had it a little while now and just looked at it again. I don't see any strikes on the bolsters or blade where stampings are to distinguish as a blem. It looks fine other than the aforementioned. It looks like it just slipped thru QC.

They used to mark them permanently......I think with a "B".
But they quit and just put a temporary arrow pointing to the problem.
That way the profiteers all snap them up to sell on e-Bay for full price.
:D

I guess that helps a little if it's on the box, if there is a box. Otherwise look things over the best you can I guess.
