Chuck, CJ, or Joe . . . what happened with Strider?

No I haven't.
Two reasons,I will not buy a knife made in China and I still do not know for sure if it is a knock off of Strider but I am thinking that it is.

If it was made here it would be giveing Americans jobs.
I have enough funds to buy knives made in countries that have about the same economy as the US if I buy one that is not made in the US.
Buying a knife made outside the US is fine but not from a place that pays .20 an hour to its workers.
The tiger stripeing is Strider while not trademarked is is still theres but the big thing is the total design.I looks like is was copied right off a Strider folder.

Are you aware that Strider and Buck collaborated together on several knives.
Buck has some knives made in China as well as several other companies,it helps offset business costs and keeps other Buck products made in the USA
available.Unfortunately in this day and time very few products or parts of products are totally made in the USA,including cars,a little off topic ,but I don't know of any car that does not have foreign parts in it and some of the parts are from China.

I guess the wage issue related to knives made in other countries has more to do with the wage being paid as it compares to the "prevailing local wage scale" rather then try to compare it to what we are used to paying here in the States. I know of some countries whose workers would kill to get a job that paid $200 per month. If the wage rate is above the prevailing local wage scale, the potential is to destroy the local economy.

It's not just Mick's attitude that bugs me, but the general attitude of Mick's fans in general to threaten violence. AND the Strider crew does nothing to curb this. Anytime there is a perceived copywrite or trademark or even something slightly similar with tigerstripes or camo or whatever, they scream bloody murder, and most often curse them with every know curse know to man, and usually mention how this person deserves an untimely and painful death!
There was an incident where an ebay seller was illegally selling Strider Tshirts. Mick said he was going to pay him a visit, and most everyone else who posted either encouraged Mick to beat the man to death or volunteered to help.
What also really scares me is that many of these people claim to be LEOs.
That's just not the gang I want to run with.

I own a Buck /Strider 888 Solution.

It's a great and hefty knife, but would I pick it over other Buck products?

Not really, I have a Buck "General" is my go to knife for checking scary sounds in my house at night. My early (black handled) Nighthawk is my ideal hard use outdors knife, my Skinner is one of the sharpest knives I've ever owned. My Gold Ti. handled 110 versions are my Sebenzas, one for me and one I bought for my as then unborn son! When he's old enough he's getting the "BuckBenza" and a lot of knife for the money!

I like the Strider brand and ethos, but when I need a knife to actually cut rather than smash stuff, I want a slimmer stock, a Paul Bos HT and a decent steel! Doesn't need to be miracle steel, a good Carbon will do me, once it cuts!

I love Tactical blades, but the ones I reach for most often are field proven, not Combat blades. Any Scandinavian blade should cut it, even cheap as they are! Any Buck will do whatever job you've got in hand! Loads of developing countries have a good history of blade making in High Carbon Steel.

A "real" Strider blade would be nice, but it isn't needed in 99% of tasks we Civilians will ask a blade to perform.

Just a thought?

I have no reason to believe that Strider knives are anything but good tools and I am sure that Buck Strider knives are very good knives although I have no experience with either. Even so, I will not buy anything with the word "Strider" on it. Mick Strider is the personality behind Strider knives and, as such, his personality either hurts or helps his brand. Especially since he is such a spokesman for his brand. The postings about him I take with a grain of salt. I can forgive, up to a point, his apparent felony convictions. As a veteran, I do find his supposed embellishments of his military service disturbing. Even so, that would not keep me from considering buying a Strider knife or a Buck Strider knife. What I do have a problem with are some of the postings that Mick Strider himself has made. Glassjax's earlier post has links to good examples. Certainly, as Paul Bos stated, everyone says things, on occasions, they shouldn't have or they regret. But Mick Strider says these things often enough that I believe that they show his true personality. He is not the sort of person I care to do business with. I also believe Buck's collaboration with Mick Strider hurts their reputation to some extent and I believe Buck would be better off without a Strider line. Even so, that is up to Buck and Strider. I will not purchase a Buck Strider knife but that will not stop me from being a fan of Buck knives. I especially prize any Buck I own with the Bos stamp. :)

Ref: Mick Strider and his words..
Ok he changed his name; mine was changed before I had any say so… As to a felony charge he was convicted of … well I have heard different things at different times. Unless you have the court transcript which we don’t some if it is his word to others…

So it is “How does he deal with you” ….
No longer a world of natural trial and to the death… were the stronger or more skilled inflects physical harm to the other .

Our words and the way we use then are the tools & weapons of today’s western world…and how we portray our selves. More harm can come form words in today’s world and many of us have never learned the words to reflect our feelings and thoughts so we rely on what we know….. and in saying it louder so it makes it or us ‘righter’.
I am reminded of the pen being mightier then the sword..

Well as to his postings…. yea lots of us are guilty of a rant at times as some of us have noted including Bos . I also have let words and phrases I learned in the Navy come out at times … but is he reacting as his market expects him to ? For the most part I feel you are who you say you are in face-to-face experience …but many of us have to maintain a public persona… Few of the people we see on TV are how they are in person… though some are most are not. Buck has maintained a consistent image through this as Strider has maintained his.

Who buys strider knives ? Would you not expect him be an appealing image to his market with his threatened actions and word use ? I don’t think he has very many Harvard English Professors in his target market {or does he…hummm}?… and if he backs down even the slightest bit on his public profile of confrontation and we can settle this now image , he will likely loose some of his market as he has to maintain the image he has sold his knives under as the never back down or show any weakness as it is not a nice world… Jest as the governors of cal and Minnesota have to deal with old images not matching current job he has to maintain to make his sales and marketing share… It is possible that some one would be surprise at how he may be in person as a friend…

He and Buck have their company issues to work out and it may be that they won’t work out. The way I see it they both got some needed exposure to the others market . CJ Buck is changing the image of Buck knives from what his grandfather made it in to and expanding the appeal to some that like the tactical knives and to those that like the cheaper knives also. They formed a partnership for to improve both and it was useful for a while.

Truly if Strider knives did not have protective wording in the contractual agreement that they had with Buck then they are guilty of a failure of having a lawyer that did not include such working and prevent Buck form having strider looking knives made over seas… If they did not have a lawyer write the contract then I guess they did not chouse their words wisely…we all learn from our mistakes. Seems I recall somethign as to the most copyed knife in the world some time ago...

Us voicing our thoughts on this and ‘beating a dead dog’ over and over is not doing any of us any good…execpt for venting our fustrations at not haveing a lot of the rest of the world agree with our line of reasoning...or are we seaking thoes who do agree with us to voice tht agreement so we are not lonely voice in the net...

Now if you will excuse me I have to find the calamine lotion as the ivy liege is tearing me up.
Later and most respectfully yours,
David 'Redwing' Meier, retired navy submariner
( or do any of you want to argue that !?)

Any update on the Strider Buck situation? It would be a shame to see this collaboration fall apart over a perceived slight of knives like the Ghost Rider.

I, for one, see no resemblance other than the handle's overall shape: Tiger striping isn't anything new, neither is G10. There is no hole in the blade and the back of the blade locks up against a stop pin instead of thumbstuds against the liners.

I do own both an SNG and an SMF and they are exceptionally nice knives, but that hasn't stopped me from picking up a few SBMFs. I for one, would love to see a G-10 SBMF that can be easily disassembled for thorough cleaning.

Here's hoping the collaboration continues or that Buck at least can continue to make the SBMF and Tarani lines.

Oh my. The world of tactical knives seems to be powered by macho men with exceedingly high levels of testosterone. Who can beat up who attitudes seem to have never been left on the schoolyards of youth with many of these guys. Does every manufacturer base their selection of who to collaborate with on how big their cajones are? Every one except Camillus I think, who chose a man for their testicles, excuse me, Tacticals just as at home in the kitchen as in the outback (Ethan Becker).

Camillus is in very deep trouble for the financial mismanagement over the years. Hopefully someone will pick up the ruins and continue to make their knives. I'm sure Ethan Becker will take his knife designs to someone else if Camillus is ultimately forced to close.

Most Becker knives are great outdoors tools, but the BK7, BK9 and BK10 are tactical knives any way you "cut" it:) . Different from Strider's stuff, but serving the same purpose.

While Mr. Strider might not be the most diplomatic person, his company is producing items that are being directly issued to servicemen and women (mostly in the SpecWar groups). These folks can buy any COTS items they need, so even if Mr. Strider has too much machismo, who cares? They make a great knife! Not everyone can afford an original Strider, so the Buck collaboration is the closest many will ever come.

I would think that most people buy knives because they are useful tools, not because they like or dislike a particular maker's personality. I like a well made, sharp tool with a good warranty. This is why I like Buck's knives, Strider's knives and the Buck-Strider collaboration knives (in addition to many, many other knife makers/knife companies)!

Any news on the Strider-Buck status? Last official word was CJ was going to get back after Blade in June....just checking cause I love the B/S knives.

well per the last email i got from the co owner of strider
about 5 weeks ago it is still off...
dwane said that the parting was agreeable
that nothing had changed
he childed me for commenting on the 'past'
use of ats34 that they wont use it any more
and i should do more resurch before shooting off my mouth...
oh btw : he is from not far from were i grew up... in va...
and some places there you learn to fignt or hurt either way you learn..

so they are still maintaining there publix persona as they should
as that is the market that they target with the good knives they make!
and they are good.... i like them. but i love the 110...
lader tide fan...

If so - then it is great. I really hope to see something like Buck 880 or 888.

I think it may be same as 880 - something different then they have in Strider model line, so it will not be any competition between them. I rather like to see top quality knife which 880 was, unfortunately it was last top quality modern forlder from Buck, and I guess any manufacturer need to have at least one model like this, just to maintain reputation...

Why can not it be something like striderized somehow 110? It will be pretty cool.

Thanks, Vassili.
