City Boy raise question

..seeing Busse friends/fans posting pictures in wild, seems a lot of fun!
..
Why you guys use "knife" to chop when there is "ax" deisgn for the job to chop woods
bragging rights.

Sure a .300 Win Mag will take a white tail deer.. but someone who does it with a single shot pistol.. has more bragging rights.

it's cool to have a Busse/SwampRat/ScrapYard knife that can do what other knives can't/shouldn't do.

..also.. it's fun.

When I am in the woods here in the Pacific Northwest everything is usually wet. A knife is FAR superior to an axe for splitting (baton method) smaller pieces of wood and logs (up to say 5-6" diameter) than an axe as well as smaller tasks like splitting kindling. Try splitting an arm sized piece of wood with an axe and you can lose a digit pretty easy. I used to be a believer in carrying a nice 'hawk with me and it just doesn't work. As mentioned earler a knife carries much better as well.

I saw the picture of Skunk and the sandwich too. Imagine if all he had was an axe. I'd pitty that SOB'in sandwich

A large knife combines the utility of a hatchet and a machete. Both the knife and the hatchet can chop smaller pieces of wood. Logs and tree felling require a large, two handed ax or, preferably a chain saw. The large knife is much more efficient in dealing with twigs, brush, vines and grass than a hatchet because it has a much longer cutting edge.

A Paul's Hatchet is a great think to have, but it's a lot more like a Natural Outlaw in use than an axe.
