Introducing the first CKCA Collaboration Benefit Bowie. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation to benefit prostate cancer research.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday May 28 @ the 2009 BLADE Show.
You will also be able to purchase tickets via the CKCA website:
www.CustomKnifeCollectorsAssociation.com and at select knife shows across the country.

This beautiful bowie has a 12" blade of W-2 with an active hamon. It's approximately 17" long and has an ancient walrus ivory handle. Paul Long created the beautiful tooled leather sheath.

The CKCA would like to thank the following members for their generous contribution to the project:
Russ Andrews, Larry Bailey, Jerry Fisk, Don Hanson, Paul Long, Bob Starkey, Mary and Chuck Ward, John White.

Jim as you know there's a lot going on in the CKCA. Though I would like say now, it's going to be May 28th as well before we will be set-up to offer tickets via the website. We are busy getting ready for the Blade Show(banquet/show/meeting, seminar and scheduling coverage for the CKCA Booth).
Bob Starkey will need to set-up a Benefit Bowie page on our website with Paypal sales capabilities and before he does that I will need to build an accounting structure for our ledger to keep track of everything. The good news is, I already have the template we used for the Blade Forum Bowie which will save a lot of time.

This will give us a little over four months to receive contributions for raffle tickets. We would like for this to be yearly event, with different makers and benefiting research for a different types of cancer each year. But we have to have ample participation from the community. Though the recipient of the Blade Forum Bowie contribution, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a HUGH organization, they were extremely appreciative to receive our donation.

That project demonstrated just how gracious our BF community is, in that about 85% of total contributions (contributions & and ticket sales) were from folks who participate on the Blade Forums. I hope the CKCA charity projects will reach out even farther for contributions. Perhaps even some corporate match projects.

Cancer research is extremely important to everyone worldwide and is something we are seeing the benefit from everyday. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago and given a possibly of a few months to live, well he will turn 80 on the 25th of this month and has been cancer free for three years.

WOW, fantastic knife for a wonderful cause, thank you to all involved.:thumbup:

Larry Bailey has been all over the project for weeks now, so I don't want to steel his thunder. I will get him lay out the who did what in creating this beauty.

I would like to mention however, that in addition to Chuck's photography Mary Ward did an outstanding job on the design and layout of the brochures and marketing materials.

Outstanding in every way.

I look forward to buying some tickets and as said above all participants deserve a well earned round of applause.

Well Coop here we go. Don Hanson did the design for the bowie and supplied the ivory. Then Don forged the blade, ground and did the finish. John White made the guard and spacer with file work. Then the bowie went to Russ Andrews to fit the ivory and make the butt cap. Then Russ did the finish of the ivory and butt cap. Next up was Jerry Fisk who checked all fit and finish. and Jerry applied the makers mark. Next the bowie was off to Paul Long for a great sheath. Then Paul sent it to Chuck Ward and wife for photography and flyer layout. Everyone did super work and I can't thank each of them enough. The whole project went smooth as could be. Now the question is who will be the lucky winner in Oct. And I know the answer. Prostate Cancer Research. We all win.

Wow, that is an amazingly wonderful cause and display of true craftsmanship!!!

FWIW, my father is actually suffering the effects of this terrible affliction. He actually had colon cancer, but then when removing it found it had got into the prostrate and it had to be removed as well, life will never be the same for him, 1-2 yrs before that he had a quad bi pass and valve replacement, 1 yr before that there wasnt a guy in the camp that could keep up with him, reguardless of age, now he cant walk arround the block with out needing to change his diaper and put a fresh bag on his hip.......... ya know of every thing he's lost, if asked the one thing he wants back is to be able to stand up like a man and take a piss..............funny how life can change almost over night, and then we start to miss the little things we take for granted, guess .......aahhh nevermind.

great cause and sorry to ramble, this just kinda hits home for me.

thanks to all involved.
