CKCA 2009 Benefit Bowie for Prostate Cancer

You can see and handle the Bowie and purchase raffle tickets at our new booth/table which will be set-up in the lobby outside the Show Hall (near the ticket office and other booths). We will be there Friday-Sunday. Please drop by and see us.

And remember, non-CKCA members are welcome to attend our Banquet/Meeting/Show on Thursday night May 28th. @ Maggiano's Little Italy. It's going to be quite an evening.

I received the Bowie and sheath today, and though I expected it to be very nice, it's much better than that.
The fit/finish/execution is beyond words. The nicely contoured and finished butt cap and damascus ferrule and fileworked spacers dress it up just enough to please those who like embellishment and those who are more purest.
The creamy hue and flawlessness of the walrus ivory is quite special. Paul Long's beautifully tooled and sleek sheath really complete the package.

We sold quite a few tickets over the Blade Show as folks drooled over the Benefit Bowie. Get your tickets @

Introducing the first CKCA Collaboration Benefit Bowie. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation to benefit prostate cancer research.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday May 28 @ the 2009 BLADE Show.
You will also be able to purchase tickets via the CKCA website:
www.CustomKnifeCollectorsAssociation.com and at select knife shows across the country.

This beautiful bowie has a 12" blade of W-2 with an active hamon. It's approximately 17" long and has an ancient walrus ivory handle. Paul Long created the beautiful tooled leather sheath.

The CKCA would like to thank the following members for their generous contribution to the project:
Russ Andrews, Larry Bailey, Jerry Fisk, Don Hanson, Paul Long, Bob Starkey, Mary and Chuck Ward, John White.

Saw this piece in Atlanta and it is stunning.

Is there a cut-off point for ticket sales, or will it run right up to the drawing at Jerry's show in October?

Roger

I got a chance to see this in Atlanta also and put my name in the hat. It is superb to say the least!

Thant's a good question Roger.

We will cut off CKCA website tickets sales/donations @ 9:00pm EST on Wednesday September 30, 2009.
Show attendees can purchase tickets right up until drawing time (drawing time pending final show schedule) at Jerry's show.

This Bowie is amazing, was able to look it over first hand at Blade. Its one of those thats looks much better live (although the photos are great). Its all there, design, flow, execution... all spot on.

For anyone who doesn't use Paypal, you can purchase tickets by sending funds along with your name, address, telephone and e-mail address to:

CKCA
PO BOX 5893
Glen Allen, VA. 23058-5893

We have already recouped what little expenses we had, so every cent taken in is directly benefiting prostate cancer research.

Gorgeous Collaboration bowie and sheath for a very worthy cause.
I have just purchased a ticket. Thanks, Stabber:thumbup:

Good job guys!

Kevin,

It was a pleasure to see and handle this knife at Blade. It looks super in Chuck's Photo. It is better in person. I can't wait for the drawing in October.

I would like to truly thank those of you who have purchased/donated $$$ for tickets since my post to this thread yesterday.

I'm guessing you don't have to be present for the drawing??

I'll be in Iraq at that time. Would there be any problems (I never win anything but its always worth a shot)?

Great cause also! My friend suffered from cancer, testicular, colon, lung and had two brain tumors removed about 15 years ago. All that helped him realize many things about his life. At that time he was given a short life expectancy (about 6 months if I remember correctly). He is now married, has a good job, goes to Church, and is looking to adopt (can't have children as the result of the testicular cancer). Its amazing how things work out at times!

Hi stefanj, and first, thank you for your service to our country.

And second, you do not have to be present at the drawing to win. The winner will most likely be notified the same day as the drawing (Oct. 3, 2009).

And rest assured that we will get the bowie to it's owner no matter where they may be at no cost to them. As a matter of fact, we are getting quite experienced with the "ins & outs" of overseas shipping since we have members in 10 countries.
Though the CKCA doesn't claim it as a benefit of membership, several times in our first year for various reasons we have acted as go between in getting items delivered to members in other countries.

Yes, cancer research is a great cause. Though as individuals, we often feel good after donating to various causes however sometimes wonder if our contributions are accomplishing much. Well many of us are seeing and benefiting from the accomplishments of cancer research everyday.

Starting with the Blade Forums Benefit Bowie and now continuing with the first CKCA benefit knife, we don't just give our contribution to the first research organization to raise their hand, we do our homework (thanks Russ Andrews and Larry Bailey and Stephan Foster for the BF Bowie)to insure the recipient has a strong track record of putting your money into the hands who get the most benefit from it.

We have already begun planning our next CKCA Benefit Knife which will be a Sub-Hilt Fighter to be introduced at Blade Show 2010.

Several of our members will create this piece which will benefit Lung Cancer Research. Steve Johnson and Edmund Davidson have already graciously agreed to be part of this team.
