Wolfgang is a Knife God

the blade was very thin and light...also very sharp. I am a big fan of Nease's work (bought two of his knives at his first show a couple of years ago)...he DEFINITELY builds users...he has tons of vids of the "torture testing" of his knives....

sorry, he told me the material of the steel core but i forgot...

Great review as alway RL, and great to see everyone.

Roger; yes that is a Bud Weston knife , it is based on his W31 model , I have pretty much the same knife but with carbon fibre.

Enjoy

James

Thanks James - good to see you again. And thanks to Bud for donating the knife!

The Nease Laminated kitchen knives have a core of aluminum, only the edge is steel. (also cant remember what kind)

They were extremely light in hand, and pretty interesting.

Last year they had a video of him cutting an apple juice container in half vertically with one of his swords.

Great report, thanks for sharing. I got to see Mike Mossington's maple leaf damascus knifes at his shop a couple of weeks ago. Very impressive work. His sheaths are first rate also!

Great show report and a lot of info on makers I didn't know much about. Thnak you!

RL has another convert. Phyllis is now officially a member of the Shopping Mall Ninjas.

She can light up the way, sign the bill and cut open the package.

Thanks to Neil and all those associated with the TNK group who provided lots of knives and draw prizes for attendees. Phyllis and I will enjoy our prizes for sure.

Thanks to Brian Tighe for his Tiny Tighe Breaker

CRKT has got another winner with this one which is fun to use but not so fun to get cut by. Thanks to Holger and TNK for the bad aids.

Now what is a show if one can't buy a knife. I was much too low a bidder for the wonderful Wolfe dagger but did take this older D'Holder from him.

This is a larger version of one I used to own 20 + years ago. However, it is also unusual in the fact that it has Chris Peterson damascus (steel, content unknown by D) and is one of a very few that has the collar and raised D'Holder logo on the collar. With the Red Amber, Oosic and Ivory, it is a wonderful knife.

We spend a couple days going over the show thoroughly and near the end decided to get a nice little skinner from Guillaume Cote from Elliot Lake, Ontario -- the retirement capital of Canada for non-snowbirds.

Fit and finish is second to none and the sheath is very nicely worked. Fits the hand well and not all knives with finger grooves do this. I was quite surprised to see some of GC's knives still at his table at the end of the show as he does good work for great value.

Check out his website http://www.coteknives.com/

March 18-- news flash -- Just in from Guillaume Cote via email " received more good news today, there will be a new hunting show starting this July 01 called The Hunting Chronicles, they were filming at a lodge close to Elliot Lake last fall, the producer/host "Chris David" was given 2 of my knives as a gift, he took them back to Alberta to field test them on a few hunts and fishing expeditions and, after some discussions with the other hosts and investors of the show they have chosen CoteKnives as the official knives for there show.

They have a web site

http://thehuntingchronicles.com/

you can also read a write up on my knives at this link

http://thehuntingchronicles.com/hunting_gear.html

just scroll down a little to see it. Remember Murray this is there (sic) write up I had no say in it, I did ask them to take out the word Master." (note, they left it in)

Kevin -- remember, the report RL gave is based on his view of the show and he is a major tactical knife collector and thus this is where his emphasis lies. He does a nice job also of showing the show as it is. This show is not someplace where you will see Forge Bowies. There were some Bowies by Murray St. Amour and a few others. Both Greg and Kirby had some nice renditions of their tactical fare in the form of the more "arty" style which were snapped up quickly. However both makers have their reputations in the tactical field.

Over all everyone I'm sure had a good time with the opportunity to add to his collection and also get lucky and win a knife, flashlight, T shirt, books etc from the draws. Just think, only 364 more days to go till the next CKG show.

I always knew Phyllis had it in her!

thanks for the kind words murray.

kevin, tacticals are mainstream :) As Murray said, there were PLENTY of non-tacticals around...i posted pics of tons of them!

I dont remember the exact steel Nease used for those kitchen knives. But for the big one he used a broken Henkels blade and the others were mad from the blades from a paper cutting factory. They were incredibly light and I strongle considered picking one up for either my grandma or gf who both love to cook.
