CKG Show review...100+ pics!

Wow - nicely done RL. I was at the show and still enjoyed the photos!!

As official show photog you did a great job, as always.

Thanks again.

Mike

Thanks again RL! This might have been an even better review than last year's.

Regarding steels in the carbon fiber knives...does it matter? It was a test project to see if they would work, so I grabbed whatever miscellaneous tempered stainless I had in the shop. They work okay, better than 90% of kitchen knives out there. Just wait until next year...

hey william,

glad you got the generator hooked up to see my review ;)

thanks for the kind words...those kitchen knives were bada$$!

Hey, I guess if you say the steel doesn't matter, and it works "better than 90% of kitchen knives out there."....we have to take your word for it......thanks for letting us know....I guess all those makers scientifically working up heat treats for superior performance with steels are just wasting their time.....

(ALMOST makes me wish that Cliff Stamp was still here:eek:)

Best Regards,

Thanks for posting...I think it matters especially if they are test knives
They Look impressive as far as Blade profiles and Handle ergos go
Id be curious about the strength of the laminate bond, how that is done
the steel choice is also important is it high stainless or carbon ease of sharpening/honing,maintenance...

I am a Chef these are important considerations when I evaluate my tools

Great thread and thanks for the photos. I am afraid that I would have to keep a fist full of tissues on hand for the drooling. and a third hand to clench my wallet with (oh yeah, that would be my wife's . . . ).

Thanks for the reveiw RL. Good Job

Makes a brother wish he was there...

Thank you for the great pics and commentary on the show, RL. While usually a dedicated attendee, I missed not being there and it was great to see some of the amazing new pieces.

STeven and Riad - cut the guy some slack. :)

The way I read this...he got a brainstorm one night, cooked up a little "experiment" to make some bonded blades, grabbed whatever steel was in the bin, didn't make notes - and maybe didn't realize he would get such a positive reaction from people who handled these blades.

(Am I close, Bill? ;) )

Now that he's received so much positive reaction, I'm willing to bet that his next batch of bonded blades will be much more carefully "documented". :)

I just got to see this thread.I've been on vacation in the Philippines for 2 wks.Visiting my wife's home town in Mindino so I have'nt had access to a computer. This was a fantastic review.I almost felt like I was there.RL you did a great job, very professionial.

for Ran and Kohai...

RE:the steel doesn't matter...

I meant for the purpose of the experiment. I do make serious blades for serious work, but as a concept knife to gauge market reaction and structural integrity I wasn't willing to go through the cycle of heat treatments and ordering new steels in special thicknesses. I gave one knife away for testing, another is in my kitchen, and another will be tested to destruction on video this summer. That one has already hacked through an old axe handle with nothing more than minor scratching of the laminate.
Thanks for your interest!
