What a nice guy you are, Eric!

I remember those pics of pitdog's son starting his first firesteel fire, and how cool that was. It's good to see kids on the right path. It's good to know there's guys out there who will help them.

i think moras and opinels are in the same camp, cheap and they flat outcut allmost anything out there. if you can stand to look at them they will give more bang for your buck. i guess i like them because they perform well and if you lose it a new one can be had for pocket change

Hey Guys...

Thanks..

not a problem.. I love helping kids out..

Young Master Pitdog...

Yes I'm completely Serious..

Unfortunately it's not a knife that I have, plus you've cord wrapped it,, so you'll have to send it over, along with your firesteel...

I also want to know what other multi-tools and or flashlights you have.. If you want to send those along as well,, I'll make you some holsters for those ...

Your dad has been in touch and we'll hammer it out for you Ok...

Take care..

Hey, I sent one of the Recondo X-42s to a good friend for his son in Afghanistan. This was many years ago and his dad told me that he traded it for a Becker C/U 7 and was a lot happier with the knife. But as it usually goes, the guy that got the X-42 liked it better than the Becker. :D

Hi Longbow50, i know i have looked at the Becker C/U 7 knife at some time, i may have looked online, but i don't know alot about the knife at this time. But i will look it over, one more time. If i had one in my hand on a camp outing, i may, or may not, like the way it works for me. Some times people say to me ( THIS IS THE KNIFE ) for me, and after buying one and using it for a short time, thay may say, it's to big of a blade to work with, or it's to large for my hand. Or thay just may not like it, after a time and two or three camping trips. Im happy with my knife, it stays sharp, keeps working and is great for small survival jobs, and great for backpacking and small game and some large game, cutting and cleaning of meats, and cutting-up my camp lunchs. Im not saying to you, i don't like the knife. I just, don't know alot about it. And i may naver need it, just like a great made mora, i had talked about. But, you did start me thinking about one. Your friend at the post, Donald S.

Since Camillus closed their doors, the Becker knives are getting expensive and difficult to find some of them. I own one and use it on occassion. Not that I don't like it, it's a good blade, but I'm more into the small to medium sized fixed blades anymore. My usual go to knife for bush chores is the Mora 2000. The Becker is larger and heavier than the SOG you're using.

I have found that my Moras excell at trimming meat.

Meat is not binding so it isn't difficult to cut it well as long as the knife is sharp. On binding media however they do not tend to do well, cutting board or otherwise. I have a small one which works "ok" as a paring knife, but compared to an actual paring knife it is many to one behind. The grind is just too thick and sub-optomized for general performance, more of a rough use knife compared to what I carry to actually cut things.

Well come on compare any non-kitchen knife to a kitchen knife (used for kitchen tasks) and the kitchen knife will be tops. Thats just silly.
Compare the kitchen utility of a Mora vs most non-kitchen fixed blades and the Mora comes out on top.

As much as I like my Moras ... Any fixed with a flat grind and a similarly thin blade will outcut a Mora. The Scandi grind just isn't *that* good for kitchen stuff.

A few days ago I reground a 760 (green handle/stainless) into a wharncliff. I also totally reshaped/resized the handle. I hope to get pics tomorrow.

I'd love to see these pics if you've took them yet. I've been thinking about doing the same thing.

Well i've tried my Bucks, Westerns, Blackjacks, Sogs, my kabar and other odds and ends as kitchen knives. For kitchen purposes in my experience my moras outshine them all. Of course they aren't flat ground and are nowhere near as thin as my moras. I keep my Mora clipper in the kitchen and use it all the time. Works great. I really don't understand the problem you have with the scandi grind.

I DID take the pics. Then I realized that I have to upgrade my membership (I think) before I can post them. I need to upgrade anyway...so I will. Just not right now. I'll upgrade, and then post in a few days. In the meantime, send me an email, and I'll send you the pics.

Email sent.

Your email bounced. You can send them to (removed) if they're not too big, I'm on dial-up. I'll post them for you if you want.

Here's the pics of Scott's knives. I know what my next project is going to be. That Wharncliffe with an orange handle would be awesome.

Scott, what did you use to cut the blade? Dremel? Also, is the etching solution a quick dip or does it need to stay on he blade for a while?

Here they are. I have more sanding to do on the handle, but I want to tweak the shape a little before I do the final sanding. Also notice that I put a patina on the stainless blade by dipping it in Radio Shack Etching Solution. Hope this give you some ideas. And yes...feel free to post them.

Way to go on that offer.
Judging by all the pic's that pitdog has posted on different forums, you know that these sheaths will be put to good use.

Growing up here in Canada I think a mora was probably my first fixed blade.
I still use them and would feel comforable carrying them while hunting, fishing or camping. My most used hunting knife only has about a 4 inch blade and I've had it since my early teens.
I do have some larger knives such as a couple of bowies, kershaw outcast and such, however I've never needed them while camping/hunting etc.
I usually carry and axe and/or a saw if I need to do some cutting.
I do have a dumpster mutt and although I really like the knife and plan to try it on an up coming moose trip, I think I will probably go back to my old knife.
Mora's are very good knives when used as intended and I wouldn't feel denied if I had to use one while out in the bush.
