Oops, hit the wrong button. Sorry for reply to my own threat.

Gerry, your link to the photos isn't working. I'm interested in this knife, but before I commit myself I'd like to see a pic.

Thanks

This is what I see for each of the 4 photos:

I don't know why I can't see these, I see Gerry's photos in his other listings.

edit: Spark just posted an announcement that attachments are temporarily off-line. That might be the problem, but it looks like Gerry's photos are hosted by photobucket, so they should still be visible.

OK, I think I have that fixed. Let me know if it comes thru Redshanks.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I tried a couple using leather as a background but I am still not getting a true color. Is it my lighting?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Gerry

Sorry, I can't help with the pics. If you could, can you post another closeup shot of the top or bottom of the handle showing the ebony spacers. In your original post, the 2nd pic shows the spacers & they look alot thicker than the bone. Is that the case or is it misleading? Another closeup pic or 2 would help.
(like the closeup just posted)

You're right Mick, the spacers are thicker than the bone. The jigged bone only comes in thin scales and is normally used for pocket knives that only need a thin material for handles. I have always liked bone and have used it on several knives with wood spacers in the past. I have carried a small knife on my key chain with this set up for the past two years and abuse it dialy. I know it has been dropped on the drive way at least twice and gets banged around while it is hanging from the ignition in my truck. I had to polish the dings out of it once but it is still solid on the knife.

I think it probably is your lighting ... if you are doing this indoors I suggest instead of leather you try a white or grey background more since indoor lighting tends to err on the "yellow" side, and if you use leather the knife will pick up the yellowish color of the leather too, whereas white/grey will make the most of what you have.

I suspect that you are right TW, The photo in the reply to Mick was done on pure white paper and still the yellow cast. I am an early bird and would have taken this outside if the sun was up at the time. Is there a light that will give me better color?

Thanks for the pic Gerry. I'm still on the fence with this one. My only concern is the bone being that thin as far as durability or possibly cracking. Maybe it's a concern that's unwarranted....I'm just not sure. I like your work alot though.

Gerry,, there is a thread here in the forums somewhere, I looked and havent found it yet, on how to build an inexpensive photo box. The pics I have seen using it look ok.

But for me, outside lighting always works best, and not where it is direct sun. Then you have to position and angle to try and minimize shadows.

Mick:
All of my knives carry a lifetime warrantee (yours or mine). Any problems and the knife will be repaired or replaced.
