:D

You know, I did almost the exact same thing a couple of years ago. I'll have to take some pictures. I rather like how it turned out and how it handles.

Pageophile - Wow! What are the specs on that beast?

Ended up needing kindling for the woodstove, the cleaver handled small fire food really well. Bites wood nicely, but thick enough to split. I'll give it real work-out this weekend...

You guys are inspiring ! I just orderd me one, 17 inches overall, 9 inch blade, 6 inches wide, and 1/4 inch thick !

Should be here next week, not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it will be massive , lol

Did you ever post a review on this?

Please do....

Thanks guys. I sharpened it up the other day in preperation for the get together with BrianGAndrews, KGD, and the others that show up at Waterloo on the 7th.

I'll have it with me, pass it around and post a review afterwards. Maybe the others will give a little input too.

Thanks man, she makes me smile every time I swing her :D

Here's the low down on the blade (by Matt):

Blade is 13-1/4" long x 3-1/2" wide at "clip". Forged from 1095, 1/4" at spine, no distill taper, sharp clip (cut the crap out of my leg....long story ) Overall length is about 18-1/2", has exposed "window knocker" tang. Handle is plain Ironwood, grooved to aid in holding on to this beast when swinging.

Mr. Lamey really knocked it out of the park with this one

my friend who had the osage had buried what he had under some oak or i would have tried freddie out on it. i chopped through a 6" red oak log in under a minute with big freddie which wasnt too bad. thats when the hurricane came through and i was helping a friend clean up some red oak and maple limbs by cutting them into smaller pieces. i was going through some 2 1/2" 3" pieces in one swing.

Ok, here's the picture of mine. I rather like this knife.

It's just a mystery cleaver I found somewhere or another. The handle is wrapped in jute and sealed with thinned epoxy. The blade I cold blued.

Decent as near as I can tell... it hasn't seen all that much use. I have too many other toys to play with. I never seem to carry the same one too long :D

All this talk about cleavers. Stopped in at a old small town hardware store today , one that is visited a lot by the Amish. They had a good selection of Old Hickory knives. Purchased a skinner and the cleaver. Took the cleaver out and whacked a few limbs. It worked pretty well although its not very sharp.

I was in am asian food store the other day. They had some hand forged high carbon full tang cleavers ther for about 12.00 Might be a good place to get one to regrind into a heafty knife. They felt sharp.
