Thanks for the tip bud. Tried it a few times just in case but it was prolly too late. The majority of people saying that works seem to do it immediately after the Cherry Eye emerges.

I ended up having to take him back to the breeder unfortunately... His eye started bleeding and he was crying and pawing at it.

So no new dog for me right now. The breeders are going to keep him after fixing his eye and checking, xray, his back leg which he has been favoring every morning since i got him.

I'm promised another pup... but id have to wait on the next litter. I'm debating...

Off to the cabin in a bit. Gonna buck up some trees I cut down, and split some. Thinking of using the axe/hatchet some, maybe put the knives away for a change....yeah, right.

Too bad about the pup, WW. When is the next litter due? Then you'll have to wait until they're weened, about 8 - 9 weeks.

Yea I'm bummed out about it but it may work out for the best.

Supposedly there is a litter being born the beginning of December... Which isn't too bad... But they haven't given me much info on it yet.

Was thinking of adding a small h1 Spydie dragonfly to the collection, but I don't really know the steel and its properties. For some reason I see most h1 models being serrated, is there a certain reason why, other than 'well they probably use it to cut rope'? Does it help a lot in edge retention? I read that the h1 doesn't hold much of an edge so maybe the serrated aids in that, creating a bigger cutting surface? On the other hand, I'm not sure the serrations would help a lot while cutting an apple on the beach...

Halp :'(

That sucks about the pup WW. Smoke and Prayers for little Battle.

I got no experience with H1 Gshark :(. From what I've read is that it holds an edge like generic 440 stainless. Its special quality comes from the fact that is completely rust resistant. If you just want to try out the steel and its a good price, go for it. If you're that worried about performance, don't waste your money and hold out for something better. Just remember, serrations can always be ground off ;)

Apparently the manufacturing process for serrations hardens the steel better than grinding a plain edge. My understanding is that it's a work-hardening steel, not a heat-hardening steel. It's optimized to not rust, not to be the best cutter out there. Any post-440C stainless will out-perform it in every other category, and still be pretty low maintenance.

Thanks for your ideas fellas. Any experience with cutting using serrated edges? I've only used plain edges in my edc knives so far.

Lol! A serrated blade might at least be a knife I actually dare to use on plates. My plain edges dull immediately on porcelain. Then again, a dragonfly isn't gonna cut a lot of steak. Lol

Thanks Tim!

A little yard "campin" tonight... Kids wanted a fire so we built 2 and set the tent up... Not even 9pm and they are already ready to go back to the tv inside... I would make them stay out but momma is on their side and wants to go inside as well...

Oh well... I got cold beer and wood to burn!!

Was a nice night! Still have one fire going... Just barely.

Managed to burn up a pretty large pile of limbs and trees that i wanted gone so that's good.

Set your clocks back...

ah, i'd like to burn some stuff... though i tend to save most limbs over 1 inch, esp if they dropped off a tree for free - most energy in limb wood apparently

and ... it's wood. like, free, so :D

back around Blade show, after being gone for days, i came back and noticed a LOUD sound, that i had been getting used to.

my 25 yo "classic" alarm clock's transformer just hummed like a beeeeeeyotch. so. loud. though i never noticed until not being home for days.

enter the new Sony projection cube. it came PREPROGRAMMED with the time/date, and it knows about DST and stuff. so, it set itself back all by itself. lol.

which made me ponder "why is it light outside but only 6am ish, oh, that's why" ;)

i own very little stuff these days that doesn't set itself back automatically. it's the future.

sadly, some older tech doesn't know about the last update to DST dates, so, they are screwed, and have to be run in non DST mode, and reset manually

oh well :D

eventually, we'll get rid of DST and just have universal time: dark vs light

upside to wearing a half face respirator when grinding steel -- no black boogers.
downside -- you can't smell smoke when your shirt starts to smoulder.....
upside to all cotton t-shirts -- when they actually ignite from the hot metal sparks, they make smoke you can see -- and they don't melt into your skin causing 3rd degree burns.

so what lesson did we learn today?
Geometry is important, because sparks follow the tangent of the grinding wheel.
it's also important to reset the angle of the grinder when you switch from sanding wood back to grinding metal.

time to go through the leather stash and see what I've got that's suitable to make a grinding apron.....

Ha!
Congrats on doing no permanent damage. I have a leather apron and love it.

The finishing bench got a new overhead LED light tonight:

I'll have to check them out - that's a lot cheaper than any leather I have around here, and especially worth less than my time sewing one up.
