Clich's BKT wood handle mods

Wow. I bet that Esky feels amazing in the hand now. It just -looks- like it feels good with the rounded wood scales like that. I can't wait to see this one done. I would get some wood, but I'm not a fan of wood on my work blades.

Those are very nice on the BK2, but that is going to be a work of art on the Eskabar! Cant wait to see it finished!

Wow, they both look awesome. It helps to shape the handles after gluing them to the tang, looks like you slipped a bit on the BK-2 scales.

Great work brother, this makes me just more anxious how mine will turn out!

That is really awesome !!! What does it do to the feel of the knife ? My 11 & 14 just do not seem to fill my hand enough to make me feel real comfortable carving with them. That looks like a great solution.

So far it feels great. Like a whole different knife. I was trying to make the grip feel more forward since my buddy will probably only ever use this is the kitchen and edc. I may just have to keep this lil guy and give him a reg new 14 :D jk I just hope he appreciates it and in turn gets more beckers for me to mod since that has rapidly become my favorite activity after beer and fire making. Ill be doing more work on the 14 tonight.

I also began using the left over wood from the bk2 for my bk11. Gonna be the 2s matching little brother. Im stuck on whether or not to cover the bottle opener altogether or doing sort of a rounded cut out for it to be exposed (think of that rounded cutout on the micarta of the tweeners in the pics we've seen and that's kinda what I was thinking) what do you guys think?

ok more work done on my buddys 14. grinded and added some super glue to the pins for strength, some decorative jimping file work, shaped the scales, sanded, and added first coat of poly. went with satin poly to continue with the antiquey type look im going for. comment as usual are welcome and so it critisism since it makes me better in the end.

first pics are after pinning and sanding was done and the last are with a coat of poly drying on them

You're really making me think about some scales for my beloved BK-14... got a nice 1/4" slab of that curly birch stuff left. But of course I will finish the BK-2 first. Nice job, although I prefer oiled handles to those coated in poly, I just like the feel of a nice oiled wood handle. It always feels warm and alive, a lot of coatings feel very cold and hard. You know what I mean?

didnt think about oil. im relatively new to this so my workshop/garage/storage for baby furniture area doesnt have much. i dont even have a vice so some of my files or dremel tend to walk on me. I was really trying to think of something to use for the handle to keep it looking old and worn but still cool and would still protect the handle and all i had was poly in both satin and gloss. I gotta get a proper workshop and a proper set of tools. im flying by the seat of my pants over here across the pond

Forgot to post pic in hand. it feels great. its gonna be hard to give this one up....

Thanks guys. Slap that patina was redone almost a dozen times trying to get it right. It was too dark then too light then not the right pattern and so forth. I wanted it perfect and the mustard and vinegar gods were snickering the whole time

Very nicely done! I've been looking at file work lately, and know I'm kinda upset that I already jimped mine. Might have to find a way around that.

Thanks man.

Update: The 14 just got its last coating of poly. i switched to gloss instead of sating because the first few coats looked just like the wood was wet and unfinished and i didnt like that result.

Also the 11s scales are getting thei initial shaping later tonight so they can be drilled and pinned tomorrow. I did however do some jimping. I also added index finger jimping for better control up front.

Work it in somehow. kinda like the index finger jimping. If i was going to do filework on the 11 id come up with a pattern to incorporate the jimping without it looking tacky and out of place
