I don't get out much to the city . I'd seen pictures but never anyone in person carrying "handle out " .

In a Walmart , Nashville , across from 100 Oaks Mall . Couple days ago , my first sighting , in the wild .

Big guy , 20 to 30 yo , black T tucked into black pants . Bright shiny skeletonized stainless handle frame , maybe 5 to 6" , hanging out for all to see .

Kinda impossible to not notice .

It's no big deal , IMO , but sure looks very precarious . Great way to lose the knife .

And also a tad bit " in your face " type carry for my comfort , to use personally .

I also , somehow had the previous impression, just from pictures, that this might be more a thing for females with the tiny pockets , tight fitting pants ?

ive seen a couple younger, as in just barely 20 year old fellas i work with doing this. I asked a few of them out of curiosity. one thought thats how a pocket clip worked. he had a a sog folder someone gave him. one said his belt was too thick to use the belt clip and figured this was the next best thing to using on his belt. he had a spyderco endura someone gave him. last one didn't like the knife inside his pocket said it was thick, took up too much room and made his tighter pants pocket stick out weird. he had a buck 110 slim select someone gave him. none had a knife they bought or real high dollar, all relative of course, so maybe wasnt too worried about losing it. just a thought.

doesn't mean much and not scientific, but answered my curiosity.

It's been some time since I've been in a Walmart. The one by me is disorganized a dirty and the next closest one is in a bad area always would see gangbangers etc there. No thanks.

As far as that kind of clip carry? It's like wearing underwear over your pants.

Not for me. Too showy. And I'd be concerned about loss.

But it appears to be Steven Tyler's (Aerosmith) preferred method. I've seen him carry folders clipped "outside" in several pics. He's a big knife enthusiast.

Maybe it's a "rock star" thing.

Snags, not-on-purpose scratches, which are far worse than scratched-by-using-it, and waaay too spicy for the delicate folks around my corner of Penn's Woods. I would be tried and convicted of Social War Crimes by The Committee!

And this is why Walmarts remain so crowded;)

I have never come up with one good reason to wear my knife outside the pocket. Looks like a good way lose a $400 folder.
Yup! I wouldn't even do that to a knife that I didn't like. (If such a knife ever existed...)

I guess one of four reasons;
1. 'Look at me and my knife' statement.
2. Pants too tight/pockets too full, so hang it outside.
3. Left handed user (both celebs had theirs on their left side)
4. Quick/handy place to clip out while you're using it.
