I noticed a lot of peoples knives have worn off paint of the pocket clips. Why?

Mine will sometimes scrape a wall that I am too close to, or at times it will rub on chairs, hand rails, etc. I find that it gives the clip a nice character. :)

The wear and tear does give the clip character. :D

My clips are always getting dinged on door frames, against seatbelt latches, and hundred of other random things. I've also noticed they tend to wear against some fasteners on my North Face fleece. Sometimes the pockets are in the wrong places.

Vivi,

Let me give you a few examples on how mine get worn off.

1. I'm up on an aluminum ladder cleaning out my gutters (removing leaves and stuff) and as I turn and move and pull leaves out of the gutters sometimes my pocket clip rubs up against the aluminum ladder and rubs the paint off the clip. This happens to me at least twice a year and I'm not going to leave my knife down on the back porch or something just to not scratch the clip.

2. Sometimes If I'm working in the basement and I'm using my knife I may sit it on my work bench as I continue to use it. If it gets set down with the clip side down it will rub against the work bench if I have to slide it out of the way to finish working on something (usually wood projects).

3. I have bumped into wooden chairs in my dining room on accident but it usually scratches the chair instead.

Usually when I scratch my clips it's never on purpose. I'm thankful that I've not scratched my car or torn up furniture though. In fact when I wash / wax my car I never keep my knife clipped. It gets dropped in the pocket because it's not worth scratching my cars paint off.

Im pretty easy on my knives and the black paint on my Spydie Delica is wearing considerably. Its the nature of the black painted Spydie clips. My SNG has a titanium clip and it even has some shiney edges due to wear. Its the nature of the beast.

Without reading the rest of the thread, are you serious?

Use a lot of slipjoints or sheaths? Not go outside much?

I am not mocking, but...seriously?

Do tell, how do you NOT ding up the pocket clip?

Pocket rubbing, scraped a clip on a wooden board at home depot hauling it into a cart. II'm thinking of polishing them though, make it look really cool.

I am serious. I was just wondering what people did that they bumped into things so much. My work EDC's, knives I bring to the woods etc, they all look fine on their pocket clips. Maybe I'm just more careful, but I do keep it in the back of my mind not to rub my right front pocket into things.

Not sure why you ask but yes I used fixed blades and slipjoints on a regular basis, but my EDC's are all clipped Spydercos.
