Clip Wear

I noticed a lot of peoples knives have worn off paint of the pocket clips. Why?

Because they actually use them without doing dances to avoid pocket clip scuffing?

Every knife I've clip-carried has gotten a scuff now and then. When you bend/stand a lot, carry heavy objects, work in tight spaces, or just use other kinds of tools, scuffs are pretty much a given.

It gives the knife some character.

Hmm, I think my Tenacious forgot to get clip scratches during this adventure:

:D

I dunno, I just don't find it too hard generally to control where my body goes?

"CLIP WEAR ???" Who gives a rat`s ass ? Think of the implications of the term "EDC"...."Every Day Carry", with the emphasis on "Carry".... If you *don`t* want clip wear, shrink-wrap the knife in plastic and leave it in your drawer....

My Native's clip got ripped off when it snagged on something, Spyderco still has yet to respond to my emails... But on topic I guess for me it just happens, I don't really mind it and it's sort of unavoidable.

I'm not complaining about it, I don't get it, which is why I posted this. I wondered why other people do.

Chimney climbing notwithstanding, I find it hard to understand how one could avoid chips, rubs and scratches on your clips. I get wear marks from repeatedly grabbing the knife for daily tasks. I don't have the slightest idea how one might avoid that.

Whose clips use paint?

Black ones. And ones that are color-coated. I don't think many makers powdercoat their clips.

Honestly, I know a lot of people are bothered by them, but I like plain metal clips instead of painted. They don't show wear, and they don't get all chipped up from being worn on your pocket.

If you're dressed up and walking around going to coffee shops or doing office work, your clips will probably show less marring.

But if you're climbing ladders, wearing the knife on your seatbelt side, occasionally drop your knife, or doing any number of tasks around the house, or working on your car... They start to show some wear!

Maybe you missed this on the 1st page.

Yeah, what he said. At least for the BM's and Kershaws I own. My Spydies all have plain clips.

Well, as someone who actually owns Spydercos with black clips, it looks like paint. Which is why I was agreeing. I could be mistaken, of course.

Unless you took offense to my method of agreement, I don't see what the big deal is. Mine is not the strangest statement being made in the thread.

If you want to come down on someone for saying something unusual, let's talk about the poster who can't figure out how knife users are getting wear on their knife clips.

+1:thumbup: Vivi, this has to be one of the silliest threads ever started:confused: Seriously, for someone who claims to be a "user" more so than a "collector" as much as you do, I can't believe you started this thread. How do pocket clips get paint rubbed off?!?! I'll tell ya how it happens. You put the knife in your pocket and you use it. End of story.

When one is busy working, trying to get things done as fast as possible, to keep the mortgage paid and food on the table, trust me...things will get bumped into from time to time. People have been bumping into things for thousands of years, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

I've never had a problem with a clip scuffing. It probably has to do with the fact that my butler follows me around with my EDC on a satin pillow.

No, no offense taken. I had already stated that the ones I own do not have painted clips as the other poster suggested.
You stated the same thing, therefore I thought you missed my original answer. No worries.
