CLOSED, 2024, PRE-ORDER, Fat Bastard Field Knife

Your post number in this closed preorder thread is post #120 which is in the right corner of your post.
Sale dates are announced in the “The Next Sale” thread. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/the-next-sale.1405869/#post-16206698

Sales typically occur on Fridays at 3:00 pm eastern.
The sale thread will be posted promptly at 3:00 in the knife makers exchange.
Sales can be brisk. Standard operating procedure is to open the sale thread as soon as it appears. Immediately scroll to the post box at the bottom of the page. Hit a single letter and hit “post reply”.
You have shown up at a good time. CPK has been cranking out a lot of BFK’s and the CoCKs are satiated. The last sale took entire minutes to sell out.
Good luck and welcome aboard.

Are you referring to this : "1: Your post number on this pre-order thread." from page one on this thread in Nathan's description post?
Post number refers usually to the comment/post number on the top right of your comment/post.
For example, your post number above is #120.

Thank you. I can tell from the helpful replies from you, afr and Cap'n Smudge that this will be a great forum in which to participate and learn. Now, in addition to hoping I can secure a 5" BFK, I have to contend with deciding between 3V vs MagnaCut...
Regards,
Scott

Ha! The $64,000 question... The easiest answer is both! (There is no wrong answer brother.). Lots of available opinions and commentary about both MC and D3V. Take your time and enjoy the journey. But be careful... Fridays @ 3pm can become a regular occasion, often resulting in frustration, but occasionally pure joy. Like I said, enjoy the journey and welcome to the CPK forum. Best to you sir. Since this is your first CPK I would definitely go with D3V… or both.
Nathan’s D3V is highly corrosion resistant, more so than the standard heat treated 3V.
Beyond corrosion resistance the D3V is on par with or exceeds Magnacut in every other important metric for a knife steel.
Definitely D3V… or both.

This is not a sales pitch.

If you decide to hang around for a bit, a basic membership (I think it’s $10/year) will get you the ability to send and receive private/direct messages to/from other members. Typically well worth it, as there are a lot of helpful folks (enablers) in the CPK forum.
As I said before, you showed up at a good time and it should be relatively easy to get a BFK if you are there promptly at 3:00 pm eastern for the next sale.
Best of luck!

Curious, when Nathan posts a sale for Basic Field Knives, are they all 5", or are the 5" ones indicated as such?

By the way, is that burlap micarta on the DEK2? Looks really nice.
Thanks,
Scott

As far as I know, the "Basic Field Knife" is a specific model. So, yes, they are all 5" in length. I believe that the "five" designation pertains to the cutting edge, as the actual blade is about 5.5" from the forward-most portion of the handle to the tip. It really is about the perfect size for a lightweight, yet robust, field knife.

Also, yes, that is burlap micarta on the DEK2. Like you, I'm a fan. It's probably my favorite, and I keep turning my back on it. Every time I manage to get a new CPK, I also manage to get sucked-into the "latest and greatest" micarta offering coming down the pike.

I felt compelled to mention that you posted in the FBFK thread, which pertains to a one-off blade that is NOT the BFK. If you have any further BFK questions, and want them answered by folks much more knowledgeable than I, you may want to post them here...

Anyhow, if you're wanting a BFK, I hope you score one during one of the sales. Happy hunting.
