Closeout model List of 2007

My mini manix is about 1 month old, has a CE and is much enjoyed. Im lucky I got it when I did, because one thing it wont be - is missed!

Thanks, Carrot - really good points (no pun intended) to consider. I do a lot of rope work, so the CE is helpful in that endeavor. But the PE is, overall, my preference.....

The Manix is being discontinuted? I thought that was one of Spyderco's most popular models besides the Endura and Delica.

Boo. :(

I already hit my monthly spending quota buying other stuff...

And i just bought a Paramilitary. Gonna have to see if i can dig up some extra funds to pick up a mini-manix and afew others. :D

Yeah thats what i thought too.
I really like Spydercos they are great knives but the company seems to invent then discontinue a lot of good designs.
For me the models i miss are The Dyads and the Catcherman
and now add the Manix.
Innovation and newness are good but i also like manufacturers that have a stable model line.
If i lose my Buck 119 or Victorinox Huntsman i know i can always get another, thats kinda comforting.

Wow, that's a surprise about the Manix. I picked one up this spring, a PE, based on raves from others across the forums, and previous experience with other Spydercos. Thank goodness....

I'm shocked... The Manix the 83mm, the Ocelot, and the D'Allara... Hopefully they're just making room for the "Tuff Concept..." :)

Was the DKPK ever a catlog item? My impression, which could be wrong, was that it was more of a Sprint Run type thing.

I have no idea. I don't have one, and I don't really need one, so I never paid much attention to it. I guess they can't discontinue it if it wasn't in production in the first place.

I'm glad to see the centofante's survived! I've been kinda nervous that they would get capped since they've been on the discount pile on ebay for a while, but fortunatley thats not the case : )

This thread got me intrested though, does anyone know which knives got terminated in 2006?

I truly feel sick about the Manix line-up. I have a few and I believe it is one of the best designs to come out in the last decade or so. I too believe there should be a stable product line that includes the Manix. It is a knife that holds it's own corner in the knife world.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for an introduction of a "Manix 2." Can't figure out how such a great knife could be improved but you never know.

I have the same curiosity. I really like my plain edge manix for any heavy duty cutting chores around the house. I also like the extra security of it + a surefire on evening walks with the family. It really covers a lot of bases... I can't see what could be improved about it.... but I hope to be surprised.

is there going to be a dallara 2 ? full SE available too?

I think the drop point was referred to as the D'Allara 2(?)

Some reference was made a while back to a smaller version. If that's going to happen or not, only time will tell.

I would personally love a smaller (read: thinner) version. That thing was a monster! I remember Sal saying that they tinkered with the model over its lifespan to make it thinner, among other things. Maybe they'll release an updated version with the newer ball-bearing lock cage and an updated handle configuration. At it's price point, it was a really nice knife.

Some of them are old friends and some I have not even held before.
I guess if I had to pick one that I thought would be missed the most, it would be the D'Allara Drop Point.

That is a lot of knife for the money and I wish it was not going away. The Manix will be missed as well but the lock-up on them never seemed very good anyway.

There are a few I want to try like the Ocelot.

Always thought the D'Allara DP is a great value knife.

I would love to see some sort of 'convergence' between it and the Manix in the future - a heavy duty flatgrind with a ball bearing lock.
