Had one of my neckers get all rusty on me. On my hike the other day. Used it to cut a water bottle in half, so the mutt could get a drink. Threw it back in my back pocket still wet, cause I was being eaten alive by skeeters. Forgot about it until today, had some nice rather large rust spots around it. They buffed out for the most part,,,:o

Glad your feeling better OP,,,,:)

Your just looking for an excuse to buy one of those .540" neckers.:D

Kurt,

If your looking for mosquito repellant while hiking I can recommend Rail Riders with Insect Shield. I wear their Weather Pants with Insect Shield and bought my wife one of their Insect Shield shirts. I also sprayed my Tiley TH4 with Permethrin and got Zero bug bites doing our 5 days camping in Washington (others were not so lucky). If you have cats (I don't) you have to very careful applying Permethrin to your clothes. I've sprayed my hiking boots and socks with it because the Midwest has a lot of ticks. You spray it on your clothes, let it completely dry, and it lasts through 4-6 washings (read the included instructions/warnings if you use it). For the kids I used All Terrain Herbal Armor Spray and it worked great. I've also made Permethrin bandannas for them, but we didn't bring them on this trip. Hope this helps.

I received my Oveready OJ C2 yesterday and put my Moddoo M2-50 on it. Uhmm, anyone that does not have one needs to get one. CRAZY bright. Last night, I shined my E1B on the wall and my kids said, "Dad that is a bright light". I then fired up the Moddoo and they said, "Wooowwww, it is brighter than day light". It is CRAZY, CRAZY bright. Thanks Moddoo.

Good links Brian, thanks. Went to the local Wallyworld just to see what repellent they had in stock. They were totally out. Mosquito's are that bad this year.

The only good thing about the Mosquito's, they force you to stay at a good pace. You slow down too much, your lunch. Gotta keep moving,,,

you have to very careful applying Permethrin

You also have to be very careful not
to get any of it into any lake or stream.
evidently it will kill all the fish.

Up in northern Wisconsin a friends mom
used to make home made bug spray which
contained Listerine!
She is gone now and I fear that recipe has gone with her.
It was the best repellent I have ever used,to date.

Fug,

I spray my clothes with Permethrin in my open garage.

That railriders gear looks pretty good.
I wish they had a convertible pant for sale.

I have used the Permethrin spray on my chainsaw chaps, it really works well.
I am a bit cautious about spraying some of my other gear, we do have 2 cats.

I basically live in that bugout net suit most of the time in the bush.

I may just have to use a bit more chemical to keep the damn deer ticks away though.

So glad you are enjoying it.
Thanks for sharing.

Rust sucks.
I had no trouble with my D2 Horton in the rain.
I simply oiled it up before going out, and it still looks nearly as good as new, besides the sap n crap on it.

Moddoo,

If your worried about ticks you may want too try these too. I just got a few pairs of these hiking socks. The repellant is supposed to last through 70 washings.

Cool man,
Yeah, I have some permethrin spray. I suppose it may be a good idea to hit a couple pairs of socks. not sure how that may differ from those linked socks??

The Wood ticks, yeah, creepy, don't really like them on me.
The Deer ticks, had enough of those for a lifetime. Parasites carrying diseases like Lyme, no thanks. I will be extra careful from now on.

But, how careful can you really be?

Tornado just passed about 5-10 miles south of here.

All is good in my hood.

Hoping the neighboring town is OK.
