Morning.
Shooting day!! very nice weather.
Was using a Sako TRG rifle, beautiful thing.
I'll post some pics later.
Have a good one you all.

Picked up a Kalamazoo 1SM today. What grit belts are recommended for practice sharpening of machete's, knives, and such?

cool man, I love mine. I use Jantz.com and use belts of all grits. if you are just sharpening you'll want some finer grits and at least one leather belt for compounds. I really like J flex belts but I know some people dont. get some from 100 grit on up to 15 or 30 micron (translates to 400 and 600 grit). try to stick with silicon carbide belts instead of aluminum oxide. hope this helps...

Hey guys. Great day today. Went on a little adventure to pick up the band-saw. Started in SF and over the Bay Bridge to the old Alameda Naval Base where it is mostly warehousing and industrial space these days. Also lots of low income and other somewhat nicer homes mixed throughout. The guy I was meeting was running about an hour late. I decided to drive over to the other side of the base where the USS Hornet is currently moored in a fleet of maintenance ships that are actually still part of an active reserve. I paid the 15 bucks to get on board and was able to take a self guided tour since there were not that many people around. I managed to get some picks in the short time I had and hung out topside for a bit. Afterwards I made it over to Hangar 2 where I met the guy selling the band-saw. He is a traditional Aleutian kayak builder and is closing down his shop since the hangar he is in is kicking everyone out. He seemed pretty bummed to be shutting down and said he was tired of moving around so instead of setting up shop somewhere else, he was retiring from it all. He threw in a heavy duty drill press to boot and chalked it up to the fact that I was chasing my dreams and it was all he could do to help out. He said he was given the same help when he was first starting out as well. Maybe he saw a little bit of himself in what I was doing today. We fork-lifted the saw onto my truck and I eventually made my way back to San Francisco amongst the baseball game traffic. After unloading it at my shop, I weighed it and what do you know, with the pallet and all it weighed exactly 1000lbs. Actually it weighed 987 but I pushed down a little bit for the pic. :p Just made it back home about an hour ago but not before stopping by the burger joint down the block. No better way to culminate a great day than with my favorite food and a baseball game with a two time Cy Young winner who is only 27. Go Giants and have a great night everyone. J, hope all is well in Sin City.

Thanks Ron!

I fixed the pic cause I think it was broken link or my comp is fubar. Yea that is where they do a lot of shots for mythbusters. Good observation. I was wondering if someone would say anything. More over on the far northwest end though. This was taken down at the end of the southeast runway. But yea. It was such a nice day I needed to take this pic. That bandsaw needs some tlc for sure but it runs and holds speed. $500 bucks for both. not a bad deal at all. and he threw in some lengths of lumber that he had sitting around that looked nice and solid for scales.

Morning folks,

Lee is turning all southern Louisiana into a swamp....3 days of rain with at least 2 more to go.
