OK, so who's interested: The game starts on Friday at 6pm and ends on Saturday at noon. There are 15 to 18 checkpoints, the shortest track through all of them is about 12 miles. The first half of the checkpoints is in the city, the other half in the woods surrounding the city. Only maps are allowed, no GPS, no compass. Teams of 2 to 5 people must go through the chcekpoints, the fastest team wins.
Now, there's a catch: The teams know only location of the start. There they find a cipher (a riddle) which, after they solve it, directs them to the second checkpoint. There they find another cipher, solve it, and it shows them the next checkpoint, and so on. The ciphers vary, to solve them, you need to have some common knowledge and think "outside the box". It really can be anything from Morse code to base 3 in base 10 calculation linked to the alphabet (i.e. 1 = A, 2 = B, etc.), but you have to calculate the numbers first. Some ciphers are purely graphical (you must rotate some figures to get a word from them, shine through the paper with the cipher with a strong flashlight, etc.). In one such game on one chcekpoint, teams received a sheet of paper, a needle and a vinyl disc. No further instructions. The correct procedure was to make a cone from the paper sheet, put the needle in it and drive the needle around the vinyl disc - it really worked and after finding the right speed, they heard a riddle, which was best to write down and then solve it. The solution showed them where to go next...
So when playing such a game, you simply have to keep your eyes and ears open, make up different ways to solve the ciphers, and try them all - eventually one of them will be the right one. And then walk through the woods at night to the next chcekpoint on the top of the highest hill
I hope I described it so that you have the idea.
Here's the link to the qualification ciphers we were trying to solve this time. The problem is, that it's only in Czech and these ciphers often use Czech realia and Czech cultural and lingual specialties, so I cannot explain them further, it cannot be translated.
But you will get the basic idea.

That's all folks, good night.
