Coated or uncoated blade? - cast your vote-pinions!

(To clarify, this is about blade coatings,

Uncoated for me, I see no reason to have it. I am not a night time ninja or special ops guy. When the coating wears off it looks shitty and cheap.

Uncoated, cause it hides the wear n tear much better. However, I do love the look of blacked out knives and have a few. But the majority of my collection is uncoated.

Not crazy about them. Something simple like a zinc phosphate is OK, but the Cerakote stuff is not too attractive, to me.

Generally, no. There are exceptions, mainly if it goes with the aesthetic like my ZT 0095BLKS90.

I just got my first laminated blade, and prefer that. S390 at 67 HRC but I'm not sure what stainless it's laminated with. Probably 12C27.

I like the look of the colorful blades on the Microtech Star Wars knives. I don't own one because I won't use it, don't wanna mess up the finish.

I would only want a coated blade if it were highly likely to corrode, and only if it was DLC. I have 40ish knives and all are uncoated (of course, most are Damascus, so there's that).

Generally don't like them because most I feel aren't food safe and when they wear off it doesn't wear off completely so it looks like you cut something and got cr*p all over your knife

I like a tool steel coated blade for the extra protection against rust. I also really like a Spyderco DLC SE the way the teeth stand out against the black blade, but I have many knives uncoated, so I voted Indifferent.

Uncoated. I like the looks of uncoated. I clean my knives and don’t fear rust. I have no need for any coatings. I appreciate any marks from a life well lived.

Coated blades look great in a display case. With real world use they soon look bad. I vote no unless you want a display knife for show only.

I like coatings. I voted indifferent because I do like and have uncoated as well.

Given the choice I always get coated blades.
Doesn’t reflect the sun in my eyes and I think it looks better.

I didn’t like coatings much until DLC came along. That one I can tolerate well enough. Some blades are better for it, some aren’t, ymmv.

Lumpy thick or fragile coatings, I'd rather do without .

Nice smooth , slick , very durable, DLC type coatings, are OK and sometimes even a plus . IMO

I’m 100% indifferent. I love the coated blade on my Bugout CF-Elite but I would never think about a coated blade on my small Sebenza.

This is what I was talking about, I love that all blacked out look with the metal teeth. I know this knife wont rust but the TiCN coating looks cool. DLC coating will take a beating and keep on ticking.
