I generally prefer uncoated. I have some unnecessarily coated Cold Steel knives in S35VN that are obviously done to look more murdery, but most of them aren't that way and they don't need to be that way. Some carbon blades, when in used in some moistesque climes, feel like if the coating comes off you should clean the blade and give it a spray of galvanized paint before use.

I'm not a coating guy myself. Out of all of my knives the only ones that are coated are the few that I got for a good deal used. That's the only reason I'll buy a coated blade really. I suppose if you had a very purpose built knife, like something that you planned to keep in your tackle box at all times, or maybe a pure gardening knife or something, it could be useful. We are very lucky now days to have knives in LC200n, Dendritic Cobalt, H1, and even titanium for certain uses.

Sucks for dawson knives
All their stuff on their site is coated
Which I'm sure is fine but would love to see some uncoated offerings

I voted UNCOATED. I own mostly stainless so corrosion is a non issue. I also try my best to take care of my knives anyway. And I agree that scratched / half worn coatings don't look good. I don't worry at all about whether they are food safe or not, I firmly believe that we ingest much more crap in a daily basis from other sources.

Indifferent. I do like the look of a DLC coating, until it’s used & scratched up…
For a non-stainless steel like M4, I’m all for it, 100%, user or not.., the DLC will look better than rust spots. I don’t have many non stainless knives however

Non coated, I hate coatings on a blade.

Busse coats their blades to hide the crappy finish underneath but luckily now they seemed to finish their knives better and also offer a stonewashed finish along with their satin finish.

I like coatings. They protect the blade. They will wear off with use though and I think they look great!

I usually have to fight a lot of enemy ninjas. You have to weigh the stealth of a black blade against the ability to reflect sunlight directly into an enemy's eyes.

Coated is good for less corrosion resistant steels. Does it look good? It just depends on the blade and how it fits with the lines.
