Coating Issue!! **UPDATE**

+1 on this; calling is the fastest way - agreed on the crazy sharpness of late - and RD, what the problem with the connection to server where Blade lives? Sometimes it's fast as heck, other times I can't access it and I know my PC's not the problem!

There are DOS attacks going on with the host from what I understand. As soon as one gets under control and stopped, another starts soon after. It's about enough to make the Pope cuss.

It was being sharpened on a EPA and when the tape was going to be replaced, guess what happened to the coating? Really displeased to say the least. And this is a LE Grip, with M4, and a LE number.

Great advice from above. Looks like it may have had oil, grease, etc on the blade before the coating was applied.

Called them. Same thing was said to me, the coating isn't under warranty, I can buy a replacement blade, but it won't be in M4, or have my LE number on it. I guess this knife will become a user then.

Thanks for the update.

Sadly I'd guess they wouldn't consider covering the coating to be good business...mechanical parts like springs yes, but otherwise they'd get flooded with repair requests. I had a 710BKD2 where the coating actually flaked off during use and I wound up polishing the blade to a mirror finish and so swore off anything coated unless absolutely necessary like M2 and M4 blades...here's a pic of what mine looked like at the end:

Still; even though you will now have a knife worthy of a user, the price to replace the blade isn't bad, and ask for a satin blade, wouldya?

That sucks! If I might suggest, try and cover the scratch / chip with a gun bluing pen or liquid gun bluing or anything really.

Not only for esthetics but this will help prevent corrosion from forming on the uncoated CPM-M4. Moisture and sweat get trapped more easily in cracks and such unlike the edge. Oil will work too.

Really sorry to hear about this.

E-mail me. I spoke with BM. They agree that shouldn't have happened. The technician I spoke with said he may have a new CPM-M4 blade for you and they might be able to do something about the number. No charge of course.

E-mail me and I will give you his direct contact info.

Edit: I sent you the info you'll need. Name and direct number & extension of the person who will help you. He's waiting for your call when you can.

No guarantees but I hope this works out for you.

All the best.

Thank you. I called, and got a voicemail. Left him my name, and number. Eager to get the return call.

He'll call you back. Plus you have his name. He returned my call after about 20min. That's his direct line so he could be on the floor. Like I said I hope you can get this worked out.

Good luck!

MY GRIPTILIAN IS GETTING FIXED!!!!!!
I'm getting a brand new blade, with my LE number etched back into it. And I quote (or somewhat quote, I forgot the exact words) "everything back the way it was"
I guess phone calls go farther than the email.

And of course thank you Paul/pbcg and everyone else who helped me out

Congratulations!

I'm very glad that worked out for you.

next time use painters tape! lol.......

This is called Teamwork and often creates friends in the process. Nice work 'Pbcg', job well done. And yes, calls get responded to much faster then emails. A new blade with the original numbering retains the original value of the knife~!

Thank you.

Benchmade is really to thank here. Communication is key. They really do have some of the best CS around and they will go out of their way to help you if they can.

Glad it all worked out and thank you for the kind words!

All the best.
