Here is a coffee table I have been working on for a couple weeks on nights here and there. It's hard to explain what's goin on so i'll let you look at the pictures and figure it out. I got the rock maple table top, it was a workbench top 3'/6', had my little mini atlas lathe and an atlas band saw on it, my boss got the other 2/3rds. Legs are just mild steel, with a 3/4" ball on the feet tips and a tapered rope twist. the top texture I call a "dancing twist", It's fullered on 1" radius dies, fullered then advanced 1 thickness of the dies and turned 45 degrees. Left the top all antiqued and stuff, I hand scraped the whole thing.

Thanks Unk :D

It's not hard to get it to balance (well it is, so I tack welded it to the anvil!:)) wait til you see the cupHOLDER, no coaster needed.

I love the work on the legs with the taper anf gentle arcs very creative using the L-Bracket style they way you did as well! Really thinking outside the box, I love it!

Cool looking table. Seems like it would be one really tough table. I like how the table top is thick/tough and that the legs tapper down so much. I guess it seems a little surreal. Not sure if that makes any sense.

Yeah Sam,A person can do a lot more than knives with hot metal huh, nice work:thumbup:Regards Butch

Excellent work Sam!
I really like the detail work on the horizontal bits of the steel and the dichotomy of the fragile/light/airy look of the legs coupled with the massive, almost raw look of the rock maple table top is just the right amount of mind bending to keep the eye occupied without looking busy.

I like it

I want all the scrolls to be identical instead of the different tightness of curl.

I imagine something similar, but with a frame made up of the tapered ball type components reaching out to each other and a heavy glass top

Very interesting ! Legs look almost too delicate for the heavy top -makes for a visual challenge.

I really like the way you did the legs stepping forward and going around the table counterclockwise. Not only does it give a look of balance but motion as well. The way you are going with this project I think it qualifies as functional art. Maybe we'll start seeing your furniture in high end art galleries soon. People would be saying stuff like "I paid $10,000 for this table, it's a Salvati".

Nice Sam! Now, get the matching King-size bed done and call me...my wife wants a new headboard/footboard :D

Thanks big time everyone!! You guys have good taste :D

Riz, it is a bit surreal, it always seems like it's in motion too.

Larry, put up some photos when you get a chance!

Burlsource, I wish!!! I wish I had the collateral up front to buy like a 3' by 6' burl-y cross section cut of tree, would love to make a big dinner table!

Deker, sorry I missed the hammer in, and forgot to call you! King size bed you say? Have to look up the dimensions of a king size mattress....

Dixie, no it wasn't, I still have to oil the wood and steel.
