Coffee

Yeah, the add said "When it's gone- that's it".

What kind of patina do you get from a caramel donut? :D

If anyone receives their Secret Santa box and opens it early you have to be a man and fess up! Don't peek inside the day it arrives and say you opened it on the 24th!!! :eagerness:

Mine was delivered and I know the smell of fresh beans is now emanating from under someone's tree.

Woops, too late!:D I have no patience but at least I know who my secret Santa is. The person who receives the small box from me can open it now. I wouldn't want things to go stale but you can wait to open the big box if you wish.

That bark, donut, and John W Smith look delicious.

Aeropress and La Colombe Ethiopian, Sidama.
30 grams medium grind with Lido 2,
30 second pour time and 1 minute bloom time,
1.5 minute pour time while simultaneously stirring and brewing for a total of 4 minutes,
2 minute press time.
Taste: Stale beans months out of roast date, decent body, no highlights, and mellow.

I have not received mine yet, so I don't know what I'll do. At least I won't be the first to cave!

I picked this Holiday Blend up the other day. It might be the best coffee I have ever had. It is almost PERFECT! I add a touch of Italian Sweet Cream and I make heaven in a cup! I have to say it might be in my top 3 "all time" list.
1) Stumptown Hair Bender
2) Small World Black and Tan
3) Pete's Holiday Blend

Each holiday, Peet's blends the best beans from our favorite regions together to create the perfect celebratory coffee to share with your loved ones.

Guatemala! One of Alfred Peet's favorite origins.
Ethiopia! The birthplace of Arabica Coffee
Kenya! Do we even have to explain Kenya?
Sumatra! Peetniks' favorite single origin coffee
That's the pick of the 2014 crop, our feast of flavor, our annual celebratory cup!

Found out who my Secret Santa was last week! To my surprise PE sent a second box that I was given the OK to open up. Opened up the small box and found this below! Thank you Ben!

Strong hints of caramel and something that I want to say is a citrusey note? Amusingly immediately conjured up a memory of when I was a kid in 3rd grade and my teacher made the class build spice balls (oranges that were impaled with dried cloves.

I sucked down an espresso. Forgot to take the photo, lol! Did not have that fruity note as an espresso! Surprised surprised! It was rather a strong almost italian roasted espresso with very distinct dark coffey-niess to it! No citrusey or floral flavors more like what I would have in the AM when desiring a morning jolt of caffeine. Also devoid of that burntness that some roasts have! Really excellent roasters these Blue Bottle folks! I have seen them sold in several spots around NYC but never really picked up on how good these beans are. There's a whole local roasting movement going on around here. So I've been trying to focus on supporting local. There's a lot of regional roasters out there putting out really good beans though and shipping I have seen especially since having a Gregory's near my job. They seem to rotate batches of single origin from all over the place and when that runs out you have to wait for more.

Made me think, what if I brew it up as a drip coffee?

With a little bit of milk, it made for a fantastic cup of coffee. The milk and a bit of sugar gave it an awesome caramel flavor. Very smooth, not very acidic. Thank you Prim for the new coffee bean experience!

I look over at our tree. There is one box underneath it...1/2 of my secret Santa gift. The kids and my wife are bugging me about opening it. :o I don't know- I might have to cave on this one fellas. :D

Chris, you are a lucky man!

Breaking your own rules...

I'll make the trip to the PO in the morning. Then it's the waiting. :o

I will hold the line as long as I can. It isn't easy when 2 have already caved in to the pressure.

I'll wait. It's probably the only "wrapped" gift I'll receive so having something to unbox on Xmas will be cool. :D

Yeah, that is my feeling too. I don't ask for anything and would rather everyone spend the $$ on the kids.

I never ask for anything either, and honestly, my family and friends can't really be expected to keep up with my tastes in the hobbies I have. So all of my gifts and bonuses are of the green folding variety.

Nice write up! I love that caramel aroma when opening the bag. I didn't want the beans to go stale and I didn't think the beans would last until Christmas, got to have that fresh bean flavor. Your drink maybe over extracted. If you want to get the the fruity flavors you can tighten up the grind, brew colder, better bloom time, less brew time, or changing the extraction ration by reducing water or updosing. I too like supporting my local cafes and but they never have the roast dates I want and ordering online saves me a lot of hassle and grief.

The big box is the cool gift. So you can patiently wait until Christmas to get a fun surprise. I am not releasing my Santa's name until it is opening time though.
Happy Holidays everyone!

Website: "Composed of South American and African beans of various origins, with specific regions changing depending on season. Even when the ingredients change, the blend stands up to milk well and the flavor profile remains similar: bright citrus and spices with a syrupy body, balanced with sweet berries, caramel, and a hint of semisweet chocolate."
Taste: Excellent acidity while fresh bursting with several flavor notes.
