Coffee

I rotated my stock today and came up with these for the next month or so. Carried the Rangerwood 55 today for corkscrew purposes. Came in handy.
Some Seattle Roasters Ethiopian dark roast for my espresso.

Spyderco Mantra

What do you think of that Mantra?
I'm on the fence but I'd really like to handle one first or get an informed opinion on the size at least.
For a comparison, the Southard flipper is too small and the Brous Bionic is way too small. The Mantra appears to be maybe a bit bigger than the Bionic??

Weak detent but the ergos feel like a Spyderco. I have handled both the Bionic and the Southard in the past but have forgotten how they felt in hand. I hope this helps.

Been obsessed with this stuff for a few weeks now! Tastes amazing and really wakes me up in the morning! The container in the middle is a branded AirScape from Planetary Design, it pushes out all the air to keep the coffee fresh, and it's awesome. Ordered a second plain on from Amazon to keep beans in as well, should be here today so I can finally open that bag of Odinforce!

What a win for the Seahawks!!!

IMAG0147.jpg

That was an incredible game! Had there been just a little bit more time on the clock yesterday, I honestly feel that the Seahawks would've pulled off another last second miraculous playoff victory.

On topic: I went to a local cinema here in Carlsbad (one of those fancy ones with recliners beer/wine & food). We watched the movie: The Hateful Eight. Coffee was pretty much the central theme in this Wyoming, high country haberdashery.

There are currently 86 pages of coffee resources in this thread. FWIW I've been drinking Starbucks French Roast, for the past 10 or so years (I buy the bags in the grocery store & grind my own beans). Any suggestions, for a new bold, tasty brand of F.R. coffee for me to try- it's time for a change?

I'll come back here another time, & post a picture of my hopefully newfound coffee & a knife. Awesome thread!

There are some great posts in this thread. Welcome aboard.

After having really good coffee- custom roasted for me- gas station and fast food tastes bad. Folgers and Maxwell House seem sub par. I am not a coffee snob, but I like what I like.

I agree. It's not an option reverting back to drinking canned coffee, once you've experienced the richer, more flavorful blends.

BTW- I'm up to page 4. I figure maybe I'll read about 5 pages a day. There are so many informative posts that I've read so far- makes me want to try a few different brands of coffee, & perhaps even trying something other than dark roasts. The one thing that I've come to realize reading this thread: the fact that water (filtered or distilled), is an important ingredient to good, smooth tasting coffee. Lately, I've been using San Diego tap water (our water tastes horrible), instead of bottled water. I'm guessing this explains why, I'm not enjoying the flavor of my morning coffee, like I used to?

Awesome thread!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been posting in here lately. Nothing special in my coffee world lately.

Here is an excellent article about the beginnings of the Gorei (Gesha) varietal that Sweet Maria's just published. I highly recommend the 10 minutes it takes to read through it!!!

I think I'll be calling Gesha/Geisha coffee by the proper name of Gorei from now on! ;) :D Long story short, Gesha Mountain was improperly called Geisha Mountain by the British, thus all this confusion. In reality, the E-126 sample that the "Gesha" varietal is based on was actually from the area of Gorei village in Ethiopia.

Just read the article! :p

As a single guy in a small apartment I can tell you you one thing. I miss having a pot on a timer. Coffee is best served with bed head in boxers. Now it's part of my morning routine because I try to keep the appliances to a minimum. I have a tea pot and a French press and I'm always trying new coffee. Pete's was a good brand....trying something Italian right now. Sounds from this thread that I gotta try a few Sumatran varieties.
