Coffee!

Lol, I like my "river" coffee...just put some coffee in some water boiling on or near a fire, let it boil for a few, move to lower heat and add a dash of salt and the grounds will settle pour and drink.

Thread Necromancy! :)
As a rule i loathe instant coffee but does anybody here know any non-horrible brands of instant coffee?

Two weeks from now I'll be on a backpacking for four days, and I still haven't decided on how to handle coffee. Leaning towards the tried-and-true MSR coffee filter. Those nasty little Starbucks instant things are tempting, and I purchased some yesterday to try again, but the real thing is hard to beat. Think I'll be taking Peet's Sumatra.

I've got a GSI H2joe. It's pretty good for makin' real coffee & wild tea. I've used the Starbucks via's, but all Starbucks coffee is bitter. One of these days I'll invest in a mugmate, but I ain't come across one cheap enough yet. I keep seein' 'em on clearance at my local Academy, but they haven't come down far enough for me yet. (I'm a cheap bastard!)

Trader Joes makes an instant packet that includes sugar and powdered cream. 10 for 2 bucks and not half bad. Simplest and lightest I've found.

coffee when afield is not all that important to me. Even when home, I only have one cup in the morning. I have found that the little packets, or tubes, of coffee/sugar/creamer that they have at Trader Joe's, works best for me.
Everything in one packet, all I need is hot water. Quick, easy, tastes enough like coffee to satisfy me. ;)

Interesting thread. I have never made real coffee while camping. It was always tea or coco. Instant never thrilled me, but I can drink it in a pinch. I have tried many coffees and I always keep going back to my age old "Eight O'Clock" (medium roast) for my general coffee needs at home. Yeah. I have others too and used to do the grind the beans thing and got tired of it. I drink it black with no sugar.
