Cold Steel AD 10

The sharp, right-angle plunge line is definitely a weak point in the blade because it creates a stress riser. I'd agree with you that it's not likely to be a problem unless the knife is used very hard. But this knife is supposed to be a hard-use knife. What's the point of using a super-strong Tri-Ad lock if you design a weakness into the blade? Especially when that weakness is completely unnecessary.

Here's the AD 10 below a Benchmade Rukus 610. Both are hard-use knives. The Rukus is bigger and stronger. Notice how the plunge line is radiused while the AD 10 has a sharp plunge line that will concentrate stress and make the blade far more likely to break at that point.

You can read an excellent analysis about stress risers from Larrin's awesome Knife Steel Nerd website:

I would think “hard use “ can have a very broad meaning. We’re do you draw the line for hard use ? When the definition turns to abuse ? Honestly don’t think you’ll ever read anyone having a problem with any weak points on the AD-10 except maybe from over analyzing .

Mine came in and I just gave it a quick inspection. The fit and finish seem great. I am very impressed, especially for the price.
The more you look at it and have it in hand the more you’ll be impressed .
I’m still amazed with the 3D contoured handle and how good it feels in hand.
Also the balance on this knife is outstanding.

Yeah, that was one thing that stuck out was how nice the handle is. It’s a big knife but it doesn’t feel like it (in a good way). The shape and g10 are perfect.

I also noticed that when the G10 gets a little wet it seems to have more traction.
Not sure why maybe it’s the texture .
Be careful though these AD-10’s came razor sharp lol. My only beef which was a easy fix is the pocket clip was so tight. But about ten minutes after I had it that was corrected and now it has the perfect tension and pulls from your pocket nicely. I wrapped the clip with a few layers of painters tape then put it in a vice and used my robo pliers to curve the tip up a tad . They used just the perfect amount of loctite also so the screws came out easily with my wiha T-6 I believe. Just be careful not to torque them down to tight like all the handle screws to if you ever disassemble it and just use touch of blue loctite.
That’s one tough clip though she didn’t bend easily!

What a great thread. If the A.D. -10 was still $140 I'd get one today. I'm on the fence about this super knife. I've been carrying a spyderco police 4 lately. Great big slicer in k390. It is surprising thin in the pocket.

That's my only concern, how it carries in the pocket. The weight is more than I usually like, but not a deal breaker. With summer coming up, my dress apparel always includes a thick belt. I'll probably end up getting one soon, think I'll start thinning out some of the ones I don't carry. Thanks for the great pictures and excellent reviews.

I normally carry all my knives in my side leg pocket so I barely know it’s there .
I really think it depends on your pants and which pocket you carry . It’s a beefy knife but not a issue for me as I normally prefer a knife I can feel and know it’s there vs one so light I’m constantly checking to see if it’s still there lol .
Just my preference though
Sorry for the poor pic just took it on the fly .

I didn't even think of that. I usually wear Duluth jean shorts like in your picture, they have those extra pockets that I like on the side leg. We got another week or two till I'm wearing shorts. Still a bit chilly in North Carolina. That might of just pushed me over the fence. Lol

I’m here to help :D
Seriously I think you will be very happy!
Edit: I was lucky enough to get one at the old price of 140.00 and like you was very very hesitant at first of the price increase. But now that I have it and know what I know now after having it for a few days in my hand I would still be very happy if I payed 170.00 and up .
It’s worth every penny to me .

Gary I just sent you a pm but there showing out of stock . I don’t know if the current price hike was from Cold steel or the Dealers or both so it wouldn’t hurt to sign up for a email notification when back in stock . It’s still showing the 140.95 but out of stock .
Edit: I was lucky enough to score mine at that price just before they sold out thanks to a great Forum Member @JeremiahWeaver09

For me the AD-10 carries wide in the pocket. The weight is not an issue. In Levis 505, carrying the AD-10 it's a bit of a struggle to extract my wallet.

Just came through, thanks sir!

I've always liked the Triad lock system and I had the UH, this does look beefy for sure! Just got a Code 4 clip point, but the thinness of the handles were always a sore spot for me...

Your very welcome :)
I also had a code 4 and it’s a great knife also but the AD-10 feels so much better in hand and the lock release is just like a little click with much less pressure and thumb friendly for multiple deployment practicing :D

It is often the width of knives in the pocket rather than weight that bothers me. That's one reason I like the SR1, its straight handle gives it a narrow profile.

Frenzy rides nice , considering it's XL length . Very pocket friendly clip and texture on the narrow handle .:thumbsup::thumbsup:
