havent bought a cold steel knife in years so was at a friends house and he brings out a recon 1 I was impressed I ended up ordering a mackinac hunter and a micro recon 1 first let me say these knives were perfect out of the box no blade play at all centered blades the mackinack is heavy but lighter than a buck 110 and man is this knife beefy with its solid triad lock its also easy to deploy. The knife is beautiful the scales are not the best but I have some g10 coming the micro recon 1 is awesome too makes my spyderco jester feel like a toy (even though its not and cuts pretty good but steel is not as good has bladeplay everywhere not as solid or easy to open as the micro recon) and was less than $25 I guess Iam lucky my buddy likes cold steel knives because I would have never even thought about buying a cold steel knife from reading posts on the forums just thought If you havent held a cold steel you should check them out.

They make good beater knives, that's for sure. None of their designs really do anything for me though and they have a habit of using pretty mediocre materials. Their marketing turns some people off, I just ignore it. In general, CS makes a pretty good knife, and the triad lock is certainly as solid as it gets, but they're just not my thing.

I have the full-size Recon 1 and really like it. I'm sure your mini-Recon 1 will serve you well!

the next knife i buy will be the full size recon or an extra mackinack hunter probably the hunter because it feels more solid.

I'm very pleased with my Large Espada Aluminum/G10. It is an impressive, beefy knife that is just plain fun to carry and show off.

the large espada aluminum looks amazing might save up for one instead of buying multiples of knifes I already have.

Don't you know, you are required to hate on Cold Steel to be here? The memo went out a while ago.:D

Seriously, I love CS knives and tomahawks and machetes and blowguns and escrima stick and and and and. I like their stuff. I have alot of their knives, and have never had a complaint. Haters usually just complain about the marketing and therefore interpret the knives to be crap. Lynn Thompson may be a chubby showman, but he's richer than God, so something must be working for him. I could care less about the marketing. I think they make great knives.

CS makes nice knives. Styling and blade steels are a little on the bland side but overall, a good edc knife and good price points. Congrats on the purchase!

I have heard many comments about CS styling but "bland" is not among them! Yeah they generally do not use the latest super steels but they probably figure their market doesn't really want the additional cost for whatever better performance they may offer.

I prefer locks that are easy to operate 1 handed versus "lock strength!" but I would like to try a tri-ad lock given all the raves I hear about it.

The triad lock won't be a smooth as something like the axis lock, but I've really liked all the cold steel knives that I've owned. I'm not a big fan of the low hollow grinds on many of their knives, but they did get it right on the American Lawman. That is one sweet beater.
As far as the aus-8, I prefer a tougher steel to a harder steel.
I sort of see the cold steel triad lock knives as the Glocks of the knife world. There are going to be a lot of folks who hate them, but there really isn't any reason to.

finally got some g10 and the mackinac hunter looks so much nicer this has to be the most solid knife under $50 I have ever held

I really want an American Lawman, but I'd only buy one with a stripped blade. Not a big fan of the coating.

...and then there's the other part of me that wants a shiny Espada XL. Ugh.

A G10 scaled Mackinac would be cool. I like the old school lines of the knife, but the faux stag doesn't do it for me. I hate stuff that's made to look like something it isn't. Reminds me of the fake wood paneling on 70's station wagons (lol).

I own more CS than any other knife brand.

No problems for the price.

I always like the looks of the AK47 and recon 1.I held them both at a gun show and they were solid but just a bit to bulky. The American lawman never crossed my mind till I picked it up and that bad boy went home with me.

if that's what's holding you back get one. It's easy to take apart and the coatings so crappy you can sand it off in no time.

Recon 1 (newest model) just might be the ultimate EDC knife... For me. NO movement after lockup, sharp as Hell out of the box, holds an edge, cleans easily(I work in a restaurant...G10 and AUS8 laugh at grease), great price, good 4 inch spear/drop point blade... what else is there to say? You can hate it all you want, but if it works, I'm gonna use it.
