cold steel awesome

You should try putting on your man hands... Just kidding bro. I own the Lawman and a large tanto voyager. They're both flipping awesome knives. But as for your issue, mcrow, I would suggest lubing the pivot and all along where the blade tang where it slides along the lock bar while opening. That should make the action a bit smoother and possibly easier to open. And maybe adjust the pivot. Just some thoughts.

I need to post pics of my two folders... I acid/stone washed the blades and lock bars. They look so awesome. Hopefully soon I'll get around to it.

I personally recommend the lawman for an edc knife, it's easier to close one handed and you can choke up on the blade. that sad the regular recon 1 would probably shine as a good backup blade for outdoor use. I have yet to handle any of the smaller size recons.

pocket bushman !
super knife around the camp , amazing lock (after they fixed it , nice one cs !).

dont listen to awful you tube reviews where some dude twists the heck out of one and breaks it on what looks like frozen hardwood ?honestly why would do that to a knife ....

ive chopped wood made fire and food with it works great !

The Ak-47 is by far the hardest back lock knife to close that I currently own, it also probably is has the strongest detent. I don't think it's me, people generally complain that I crush their hands with my shake..lol.

I can flick it open and close it, the detent and lock are just way too tight. This is part of the fit and finish issue I was talking about with CS knives.

The lock loosens up. Not in a bad way to where it loses its strength but it definitely gets easier to disengage intentionally. When I first got my AK I didn't like how tough the lock was either but it gets better with not much use. Also, a part of me wonders if the detent isn't especially strong intentionally to go along with the "wave" feature. I don't know about you but I like that I have to make a conscious effort to wave it, rather than it flying open every time I pull it from my pocket. Could be wrong, but the detent is quite a bit stronger than other CS knives which led me to this conclusion.

It's just a by-product of having the beefy, enhanced mid lock-back design. What I have always done is pinch the blade so my fingers and thumb are up against the handle and the blade pulls out slightly, then rotate the blade over and over again between almost closed and almost fully opened/locked. All of them quickly become easy to flick open or close with either hand or soft gloves. If the tolerances err towards a weaker leaf spring then the life of the knife would be shorter and you might have problems when its gritty. I did the same with the Spydie lock backs I used to own...now the Enduras and Delicas are a bit different and a lot less engagement in comparison.

Could be right on the wave and the detent.

I'll break it in some and see how it works. Still seems like a good car knife but at least I'm willing to look at a Recon or Lawman now.

I have never held the ak47 but my spartan was hard to close at first the triad lock is a pretty beefy setup but breaks in after a couple of weeks I like the tradeoff in having a super strong lock thats a little harder to close.

:) Nothing wrong with posting to an old thread . Somebody will criticize you no matter what . Don't worry about it . Some of us love Cold Steel but many love to bash . Welcome !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not true. Posting to an old thread is far from the worst thing one can do, but....

The SECTION 3 - Rules for Everyone for the Exchange, which apply site-wide, point out that

"THREAD NECROMANCY IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. Do not bump threads that are older than 120 days."

https://www.bladeforums.com/help/exchange-rules/

So making to a new member aware of that is hardly "critcizing" or "bashing." It's just helping a new member out.

 I did not know . Thanks for the info ! But I don't understand why the heck they don't just close a thread ,if they don't want it posted to ? Also I've seen people bashed for NOT posting to an existing thread . But if 120 days is the magic # , then I will endeavor to abide ! ;)

Neither did I know about the 120 day rule when posting to an old thread. You would think the thread would be deleted 180 days after the last post with that concern about late bumping.
I guess one day I ll read all the rules. I ve just been following my personal rules of courtesy and general decency.
I ll definitely follow this newly discovered rule, as well as all others of which I m aware.

There are good reasons for not bumping.

One being, that often events have overtaken the thread in the meantime.

Example: You can have somebody necro'ing an ooold thread about titanium as a material for knives.

In the interim between the OP and now, Mecha for one has been going whole hog with his titanium knives and swords.

The technology and the harvested experience has left the old (now redundant) thread in the dust and often necro'ing makes for a toe cringing read.

Most often, new members wont be aware of this (and they often havent read the rules, which they should have) and that is why, they are sometimes being gently reminded.

Some other members takes umbrage to this (because they were not aware of the rules) and harsh words ensues (not a dig at anybody in this thread and certainly not at you, Doc, but it happens).

My buddy and I went to the CS parking lot sale in Ventura, California a couple years back.
I was not impressed with the new offerings whatsoever. Quality has gone downhill. No flippers, no autos. They really have to get with the times. Hopefully Cold Steel is listening. I'm not buying anytime soon.

I love Cold Steel. Their stuff simply works as advertised. A lot of people make fun of their testing and say the test are rigged but from my own experience their stuff will pass the tests they show them passing. The Tri-Ad lock is no joke. From my own experience it’s among the strongest folding knife locks available. Their blades have always came out of the box super sharp and cut well with the grinds they use. And now they have upgraded their steel to pretty high end stuff. Combine all that with reasonable prices and you have a winner in my opinion!

If you can get past Lynn Thompson decapitating a pig while riding a meat bicycle, they make some absolutely evil weapons, as well as functional tools. Their latest fixed blade offerings in 3V are REALLY nice for the money and the new XHP steel used on their folders is
a welcomed upgrade. Now if they could just take quality control up a notch (mainly on their newer folders).
