Cold Steel Cold Steel Bush Ranger

Recently picked one up… luckily only spent $75 on it after a little dickering on the Bay. Exceptional knife, even if I had paid a hundo. I love the feel of the contoured grip. I love that the clip is darn near normal, a departure for CS as we all know. The blade is practical, sane, and came very sharp. My only gripes, and it’s really just nitpicking, is the Wave-style thumb plate thingy. It is perfectly functional, I personally would just prefer thumb studs in this format… and the cartoonish billboarding. Neither are enough to make this a no-go for me, I think it’s a winner.

Definitely a good knife!!!!! A beast too!!!! Should handle just about anything a normal day would toss at you!!!

I know many CS models have PB and teflon washers, but upon disassembly and inspection, my example only came with teflon washers. I replaced the teflon washers with new phosphor bronze and have been working them in. It’s very smooth now.

My only negative observation so far is juuuuust a little bit of blade rap about midway on the straight portion of the edge, looks like the blade contacts the lock spring when closing. Nothing major, should be a non-issue after a light sharpening. Still a fantastic knife, especially for the money.

I need to bump this thread. Quiet Quiet do you still have the same love for the Bush Ranger 5 years later?

An entirely valid question! Candidly, I would say that yes, I still love the knife and still own the one as pictured in the original post, however in the last five years I have obtained so many interesting, amazing knives that the BR hasn't been carried in at least a few years. That's no fault of the knife, I am just spoiled for choices. I have purchased many other Cold Steels since then, and all of them are amazing in one way or another.

I have stated it in various threads over the years, and of course, when my knife friends and I are hanging out: Cold Steels in general irritate me so badly because I have many knives that do one or the other thing better. Better ergonomics, or a better size, or a better blade shape, a this, or that. But if I had some ruinous financial situation hit me, to where I could only keep a few knives...out of aaaaalllll of my collection, those few knives would be Cold Steels*. Bombproof, and they're really, really good at almost everything. Out of everything I own, only they give me the confidence that it could be the only knife I have, and I'll be alright, and able to do all the knifely things I could possibly need doing.

I need to get the BR out and carry it soon, see how it goes. Right now, I'm on a Spyderco kick (after being on a Cold Steel kick a few weeks ago!), and those are always difficult to shake.

* Ok, and maybe some of my SAKs as well!!

To add on to Molokai's thoughts: although the blade is pretty stout for a folder, I find mine to be a competent slicer. Without having to reprofile the edge, mine sails through cardboard and similar materials on a regular basis. It may bind a bit slicing a block of cheese or an apple, but not nearly as bad as more popular scandi ground knives I've got.
