Cold steel colossus locked open

Why would anyone who dislikes Cold Steel, read or post in this sub-forum. You're either a troll or a closet Cold Steel fan.

Hey hermit ! I don't fashion myself as a "troll" but if you should trouble yourself to read some of my other posts you would see that I'm a maybe too passionate advocate of Cold Steel . Maybe that's why my expectations are so high ? Perhaps unreasonably . I don't believe I ever exactly said I dislike CS , more just very frustrated with people's denials .

In the past in forums other than BF , I have steadfastly argued the merits of CS designs , materials and overall value . Their are many CS haters in the knife world that love to sneer at the proof videos and the largely martial orientation of the Lynn and his company . I've always questioned the logic and motives of such people .

To clarify YET AGAIN - the design of the Triad lock is brilliant . The problem is lack of proper fit and finish in the lock mechanism in some that leave the factory . I have no idea how many . It's just a matter of sloppy QC . I expect better from CS than denial . My high expectations and frustration are not from hate of CS or desire to rile up those who must insist that CS can do no wrong .

What a great old thread ! :p

I really had a burr under my saddle back then .

Ironically , in other places on BF , I got accused of being a Cold Steel shill .

I did eventually buy a Colossus and fell in love with it .

Love the Frenzy also .

Regards and respect to : Mike Wallace , Demko and all the other wonderful knife designers of old Cold Steel .

Thank you DocJD. I appreciate the kind words.

This knife is the best kept secret in all of Cold Steel history.
It's so good for slicing that there is no other knife that can even come close in the whole CS lineup:
only the Rajah 2 (!) has about the same amount of belly but it's way thicker behind the edge so it's not quite the same on the cutting board.
I also really really love the forward lean in weight that makes it super fun for chopping greeneries, and that combined with the thin blade geometry makes it I believe the best chopper pound for pound among the XL folders.
Among those, it's also basically the only one that will not bulge in the pockets, and there is something about the width - maybe the fact that the weight is spread across a vast surface - that makes it feel way lighter than it actually is. You get both a killer chopper and a folding chef's knife in such a slim and beautiful package...there's no knife around like this one, Cold Steel or not, I tell you.
You should be proud of this work Mike. It's my absolute favorite and most fun to use CS right now together with the Rajah 2.
Congrats.

Thank you vnvman, I will always be proud of my work while I was at Cold Steel. The Colossus was definitely one of my more unique designs. I really appreciate the compliment. Thanks for posting.

You're very welcome.
Just today I proceeded to customize my Colossus a little. I hope you're not offended by this.

I do like the DLC on the blade - it helps making this knife blend in more, and it's good to have when you want to edc a big guy like this - what I didn't like was the coated lockbar and the black back spacer that pick up scuffs and dings that show through the coating.

So I took some sandpaper, took the knife apart and did this:

Since I was at it I also gave some battle distressed look to the pocket clip, just for fun.

I don't know what you think about it but in my opinion it's even cooler looking right now!

I’m not offended at all. You made it your own, and you did an outstanding job. I love it.

Done. It should be delivered in your mailbox Friday.
dayum, that golden membership must be worth something then :p

Jokes aside, I really love this design, and I'm just curious to know wether a comeback or a variation on the theme of this design was ever discussed.
Thinking about it, even a fixed blade variant would be pretty rad, and maybe easier to conceive?

Actually there is an Italian custom knife maker who made something somewhat in that realm, it's called the Arktotus made by Dario Trifelli:

gsm will do what they want to.....I'm making this up but if they feel they can make money they'll do it. if not I expect they won't. what do I know though.

No doubt. Honestly I wasn't really thinking about GSM: unfortunately this knife sold quite poorly, it's a shame but it is what it is.

More than anything I was asking wether Mike had ever considered the possibility of doing a remake of this blade design (unless there are previous deals with Cs preventing this) in either fixed or folding version with Demko Knives. Maybe the rebrand could finally give his amazing design the popularity it deserves.

To be honest I don't care much about what GSM would or wouldn't do, I'll stick with my tried and true pre 2020 units as much as I can and hope they outlast me.
