Cold Steel Counter Point I quick review

Then you'll be pleased to know that the CP1 has exactly the same grivory texturing as the spartan.

I've been thinking of getting this knife for some time. The only problem is that I don't really need another folding knife. :p But wow the design of the handle is pretty awesome and the blade is super cool looking imo. By the way, this is a great thread and the pictures are really interesting!

You don't but this will kick your edc out, then you can sell it and buy some beer. :D

My CP1 arrived today and i'm very impressed. Good F+F although i did notice some issues along the lines of what OrdnanceBubbaUSMC had said.
but i think not as bad.
The grind is very slightly off [<1mm] at the tip, but i think that's about normal for almost any knife and to me it's not an issue.
The lock has a slight sense of stickiness at fully engaged but i think that will break in, other than that the action is smooth.
There seems to be some left over [grinding paste?] in the circular liner cutouts but i can polish that out, i paid $40 for this very nice
knife and it's not an issue.

The ergos are great, the end guards really shine in the handling of the knife, and of course the tight lockup and sharp blade need a mention. i'm so impressed with this design / i have been interested in this knife for more than a year now and i have not been let down in my expectations at all.
It carries so well upright next to wallet that i might do away with the clip, and at around 5 oz it's not overly heavy, it's just right!
One handed closing is easy enough, the lateral palm swells aiding in leverage for the middle finger to dis-engage the lock.

It's in my pocket now and i dont see it leaving anytime soon. I'm temporarily forgetting about the Adamas! I'm pumped!

...
lol! My edc is tough to beat though. It's a Benchmade 930. I might be able to get $100 for it in it's current shape and that's a lot of beer! :D . Man the CP is so tempting. Also good to hear you're impressed with this knife. Actually though I've been more interested in the CPII(smaller) then the CPI. I can get one right now for about $50 shipped. It looks a bit different from the knife in the pics that the OP posted though. I'm wondering if this is a newer or older version perhaps. still seriously considering it.

So you can have beer and steak for a week, all the better!

Yeh that pic u have there i've seen that and it even gets used to portray the CP1 on the web, irritatingly it seems nothing more than a composite view, my CP2 is the same as res1cue's.

You can do better than $50 shipped, what i've seen.

I like the unlimited warranty on materials and workmanship. This is something new? I thought they had some pissant 1 year deal on M + W.

The picture here is a CP2. The CP2 is the smaller one of the two. This thread is on the CP1. Klute has another thread floating around about the CP2. Maybe that is the source of the confusion?

You can tell by the number of holes in the handle

It is a computer generated image which does more closely resemble the CP2, although i have seen this exact image being used on knife websites to represent the CP1!

If you look again you can see the blade geometry is somewhat different than your CP2.

And as far as the holes in the handle go, are you sure about that??

Hmm, that must be a mistake on their part then.

And whoops you are correct! I was thinking about the Hold Out.

Got mine yesterday. First impressions are very good. No fit/ finish issues. Lock was a tad sticky but smoothed out after several openings. Very smooth action. Reminded me of my buddy's AK-47, another tri-ad folder with unexpectedly smooth action. I just assumed they couldn't be very smooth with this lock.

This thing is light & flat in the pocket too. Griv-Ex (whatever that is) has a nice texture. They should use this stuff on the Voyagers. Edge geometry looks to be very good for this type of blade. It got to cut an air hose that needed repair at work today & went through like my Cara-Cara does. Ergos are good if you like straight knives. Much better than the Ti-lite. So far, I'm really liking it.

Yeah I realize that but there are still some differences between the CPII OP posted and the one in my pic there. For instance the number of screws is not the same, the pocket clip on the pic I posted is not inset into the handle and the swedge on the blade is longer on this one then OPs.

it has to be, that's why i said that .... it's not a "photo" or a true digital image is it? if i'm off base tell me.

No it definitely is. Most companies will but stock photos up when they announce the product before it actually comes in. They usually keep the stock photos up even after they come in, and these stock photos are computer rendered.

Like the Adamas, before it came out, pictures showed a split arrow clip, not the foldover clip they actually have.

The CPII stock photo doesn't even have the words "counterpoint" on it, and the swedge is way too long.

I re-pro'd my CP1 blunted the tip like a dive/rescue knife / shortened the blade by about .625" and took the swedge down a bit. I'm puttin this bad boy to work, hoo-yah

Pics or it didn't happen! :D

Also just wondering, why you took the tip off?

lol, i cant afford to upgrade or mess around alot right now, just got laid off recently [but of course i had to buy some knives like a dumass] so i cant post pics right yet.

I took the tip off to make it a bit safer to get nasty with this knife on plastics / wood and stuff but also [and this is just me being strange] i thought the blade was kinda pompous. The tip now can safely pry relays or fuses out and plastic panels like a screwdriver. I want to partly serrate too [this is MY version of a SAK!] On top of that it looks ALOT more sheeple friendly now, and i won't hesitate to use it around them now where i would have been very hesitant to do so before.

That makes sense. Good luck with your job hunt! I look forward to seeing it after you partially serrate it and all.
