Cold Steel Funeral

I've been learning corporate babble-speak and am making progress. How's this?

We at GSMO are one with you - family. Together we will endeavor on the path of the journey to the vision of togetherness at a level previously only dreamed of. Our products, being all things to all people, will unite your inner-self with the environs with which you may be - wherever that may be and whenever you may be there for "there" is where you are and GSMO is there, together, with you - hence the "Any Time / Anywhere" ethos of our heritage - brightly shining and illuminating the way to where you want to be ... where you are going. Brace yourself for the next crest, summit and challenge however it presents itself because together, GSMO will be there - with you - together. Your investment in GSMO Life Gear shows your savvy discernment and displays a boldness to the world only recognizable to those with a weather eye for such things. We are on the path of the journey to the vision of great things together, GSMO and you; ready?

As for the plans:

GSMO is actively engaged in the process of evaluating the feasibility of embarking upon a study of our base - both present and future, so as to monetize the product line, mantra and IP of Cold Steel and to use the financial strength, resources and experience of GSMO to bring Cold Steel products to markets and consumers on a grander scale - amortizing fixed costs over a broader production base so as to provide the ROI our investors expect and have become accustomed to.
Corporate babble-speak, eh? Ha Ha, yeah that was quite a mouthful. Excellent job! You'd better be careful, though. They may ask for your resume and want to hire you as their PR man!

All that, and I didn’t learn a thing. Well done, I’m impressed :D

Change is constant and often comes abruptly and drastically. I think that's why it's hard on people.

I guess I'm old school in that I'm always wishing for the old days, whether or not the old days were actually better. That's why I feel like Cold Steel won't be the same for me (rightly or not).
This is pretty much the essence of what I was trying to get at in post #1. CS will carry on, but as a CS fan, it's really depressing right now. I feel kind of hollow and burned out.

Cold Steel may not be dead, but they're on hospice it would seem.

We are predicting gloom and doom for a brand we liked; that prediction may not be misplaced based upon information available.

The Cold Steel knives I have, use and like are suddenly more special to me; I also went and bought a couple more.

The LT hostage video.
The lame "lifestyle" touchy-feely emotional marketing vids from Sold Steel.
The hokey good ol' boy with a stick gee-golly-shucksin' with folks on the discontinued model video.
The new and exciting warranty policy.
The fact that a recently sold M&A company (sold to another M&A company) owns CS and what that typically means.
The very recent (contemporaneous with the sale of CS) shuck and jive about A2 then butter knife steel for CS knives.
The lack of a CS presence (overt contra to covert, SLO) here on BF.
CS doesn't need to go to "boot camp" as it did that decades ago - completed A-school and has since been combat decorated.

I have more thoughts but this is a civil forum and I like to respect it.
I like(ed) Cold Steel and don't like the current vibe.
I agree with much of what you said, especially as regards the negative vibe right now, but the one point I'm not really getting is the LT "hostage" video. I only watched the video once, so maybe I missed some things. What I saw and heard was that LT seemed very emotional. I got the feel that maybe he thought it might be the last CS video he'll ever do. It seemed to me that his voice was shaky at times, maybe even that he was on the verge of tears. I'm as cynical as anyone, so yeah, probably the new ownership asked him to do a damage control video and maybe even gave him a script. But I think the bit about the failures and omissions and asking forgiveness were straight from him. Because I don't think the new ownership would have put that part in the script. It doesn't make much sense for the new owners to be talking about errors or omissions right now. The talk about the future was probably from the new owners. And if he was given a script by the new owners and just had to read it for the camera, why would he get all emotional about it? So basically I thought it was actually LT speaking from his heart, thanking CS fans, and saying goodbye.

No, that's precisely why they should wade in...to set the record straight and show us that we're wrong.

Show us? They will do that in the real world, not here. All they can do here is offer reassuring words, and they have already done that in two different videos.

Just chill and give them a chance. Nothing else to be done anyway.

When I read it, I thought of the Mark Twain quote, "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." :) I hope that's the case!
Buddy, many of us have been all over the map with the news. Some folks almost seem to be going through the stages of a grieving process. To a greater or lesser extent. Shock, anger, denial, etc. However, many seem closer to acceptance now. I'm considering an XL counter point in AUS10 or a large Espada as a final ? Buy. The XL Espada is too much even for my large folder appreciation. I hope that the C.S. spirit survives, but life will go on if it doesn't. Best to all on this forum moving forward.

I have a selection Cold Steel knives that I think are useful but will probably pick up a "stereotypical" CS model or two just in case. To me, that would mean a very large and inexpensive knife. I think a Voyager XL of some variety would be one good representative. Maybe a fixed blade like a Recon Tanto or maybe a big thrower. Come to think of it, I don't own a single throwing knife! What the...

If they would ask, turn them down. Anyone that comes in here mouthing platitudes would be torn to shreds. I still remember the MadDog debacle from 20 years ago. There are plenty of fans here but they are driven by a desire to find and test information. Whatever they say, make sure they can back it up in the real world.

Ya, there is still some fun stuff floating around that won't break the bank, like the Leatherneck in D2. I have a post somewhere with pics from a few years back where I was pounding it through dead fall, on a frozen creek, for a fire. It didn't chip or break even though a small winter blow passed through, and it was cold.... I got that smaller version of the SRK a while back, in SK-5, and its sweet. My wife likes it as its size is more comfortable for her.

Each of us should already own enough Cold Steel knives to last 10 lifetimes.
I m starting to realize this about several brands. Fortunately Cold Steel is one of them. And I still picked up a couple of CS models I have been considering for some time.

After I heard the bad news, I was thinking maybe I am growing too old for Cold Steel.
This from my XL drawer.

I don't why the new owner(s) would think they could continue Lynn Thompson's unique approach to knives.
There is no company like Cold Steel that I am aware of. I think Emerson is the most similar, but 2 or 3 times the cost.
