Cold Steel Funeral

After I heard the bad news, I was thinking maybe I am growing too old for Cold Steel.
This from my XL drawer.

I don't why the new owner(s) would think they could continue Lynn Thompson's unique approach to knives.
There is no company like Cold Steel that I am aware of. I think Emerson is the most similar, but 2 or 3 times the cost.
You got some rare gems in there. That talwar worth some money.

Nice collection.
This photo makes me want together another xl (my third) while I can.

The fact that GSM traded hands just before the Cold Steel purchase really doesn't bode well for the future of Cold Steel, & neither does either of the two "Stick Boy" videos I've seen so far (& then briefly there was that warranty debacle). Hopefully they're not planning on saddling GSM or Cold Steel with debt & sink it into bankruptcy (as happened with Toys R Us). Assuming they're not taking the Toys R Us approach, GSM will be looking to turn a profit from Cold Steel, & they'll want to show such profits to any investors ASAP. It's hard to imagine Cold Steel's lineup not shrinking (so as to focus production costs on the best selling / most profitable models) in order to to speed up that return on investment process.

With LCT no longer at the helm, and GSM's desire to turn a profit from the sale, it's a safe assumption that Cold Steel is going to have some significant & noticeable changes in the coming years. Whether they have replaced LCT with someone sufficiently competent to keep up with the rest of the knife industry is something I have no knowledge of, but in all likelihood the new Cold Steel going forward won't have nearly the diversity & quality of products the pre-sale Cold Steel had. In other words, they may or may not be able to remain competitive with the rest of the knife industry, we'll all see over time -- but I highly doubt they'd be able to compete with the Cold Steel headed by LCT.

I'm optimistic
Stickboy is clearly reading all the comments in his videos, and seems to incorporate what he reads into the new ones.
I like to see products in hard use action. And if the design is geared towards self defense, I want to see some meat slashing and stabbing, and it appears the new videos are heading in that direction.

You'll never replace Lynn and his crew, but it is possible to carry on in the same manner.
I'm waiting for them to start shaming other locking mechanisms again with their old spine whack and weight hang videos.

Cold Steel can still be a strong contender. It’s all up to the new management. There is definitely a major customer base that has been established over several decades. I think that there is actually a lot more CS fans out there than meets the eye. Everybody is not a knife Knut/collector, but they still appreciate their knives. All the politics aside, CS offered unique and good quality knives at a very reasonable price that just can’t be found anywhere else. My main concern is that a dedicated customer support dept is established. If you’re going to spend big bucks on a particular model knife then it only makes sense that the customer is taken care of when a problem pops up. I’m not talking about simply replacing a knife...people pass down there knives like heirlooms (ie Buck 110). Let’s see what the future holds...

Personally I see the writing on the wall. This looks to me like the typical vulture capital buy out. The knives already in the pipeline are being listed at absurd prices, i predict everything going into production will have quality cut to trash level while the prices still increase. To the vultures it doesn't matter if the acquisition lives or dies, they have already paid themselves, and any extra they can squeeze from the once great name is just gravy.
