Cold Steel Hater?

JNieporte: I agree with everything you've said. I don't like, or dislike, CS products. Every comparison I've made, brings me to the same conclusions as yours.

I do, however, have absolutely no use whatsoever for their owner. I have never seen anyone whine, complain, and criticize people the way LT does. I decided a long time ago not to buy anything by CS. When I read any of their advertising, I get the same feeling I used to get when mucking manure out of horse stalls as a kid.

By the way, did you hear that Cold Steel is going to introduce a new line of heavy duty, plastic, bet-your-life-on-it, manure shovels? "Don't buy one of those manure shovels made by criminals and liars! Buy one of ours! Our new 'Poo-Packer' - made of Zytel, with a kraton handle, of course - shovels s!!! better than any of our competitors! Just ask our advertising department - they've been using them for years!"

thx - cpr

Love my X2 Voyager,Ti-Lite VI and City Stick. All of them are heavy duty users.I could care less what LT spews out. I hear alot of spewing at work, but still go in everyday to get my pay. It's all about what benefits me.

I wasn't really aware of the world of CS and or LT hating until I started reading posts at BladeForums.

It seems that the same type of advertising style that is acceptable in so many products isn't acceptable in the world of production knives.

Now, maybe I'm not up to speed on all the negative aspects of CS and would love some information links that that I can catch up with. I realize that there are political issues involved, but when it comes down to a knives's performance I think there has to be separation there. As a user of CS knives for the past decade or more, I've had really great experiences with their products. I've owned 6-8 custom knives over the years also and they're great too. As far as value goes, I'd definitely have to give that trophy to CS. They do everything my custom knives do and sometimes they do a little better. For example, my CarbonV TM seems to hold a better edge that my Custom Dawson Bowie. Which do I like better? That's hard to say. I appreciate both of them. One is more unique while the other might actually be better to have a survival tool.

It's strange that I don't see this kind of intense manufacturer dislike in the Firearm, Flashlight or Mountain biking world. From my perspective it seems that in the knife world there are a greater percentage of people who believe their knife is the best while everyone else's picks aren't worth owning. The funny part about that is that the other three hobbies are much more involved and have far more components to an assembly than a knife. When I view Noss4's test videos all of the knives hold up reasonably well and it amazes me that opinions are often so compartmentalized here. I'm sure that many would criticize my newly acquired Natchez Bowie, but to me it's a very nice knife with great fit and finish. It's quality seems to be on par with any custom I've ever owned. If you ask me, there is no "best knife" just an abundance of really good knives out there.

I have Voyager and Bushman from CS, the Voyager I carry in my pocket day by day (together with Victorinox Handyman) and I have no trouble with this knife from CS ..... I like both of them :)

Hate is such a strong emotion. I think the advertising by CS and some other knife companies is deplorable but I feel the same about so much advertising in other areas that I've become numb to it. I own a Twistmaster and a couple of Red River knives all in carbon V and, once I reprofiled them, they are good blades for kitchen/camping duty.

back in the day it was the must have product to get but now its a figment in my rearview mirror. nothing but memories and lessons learned:)

There are so may good knives on the market today that we get to make any kind of choices we want.

I have no doubt that a lot of the Cold Steel products are very good and excellent values.

I do not care for Mr. Thompson or any of his barrage of attacks or marketing baloney that I would never even consider purchasing one of their products.

There is no shortage of other companies that make excellent products and don't have the abrasive personality of Mr. Thompson.

They will get my knife money.

Mr. Thompson appears to have plenty of money so he does not need mine.
