I got this sword cane and its awesome.

I have two problems though:

1-No blade protection in shaft. this is a disadvantage in keeping the blade sharp.

2-There is some issue with the blade rattling inside the shaft if it is bumped or the tip hit the ground at an angle.

Any tips or ideas to solve those?

No, you would have to pad the inside with something (which I figure is impossible without opening it up).
If you can open it, you can pad it with foam, but if you can't you might want to look in some custom sheaths.

Can you put a rubber grommet/washer/o-ring around the blade that is small enough to permit insertion into the sheath? If so, that might reduce problems with the blade touching the sides. The grommet would likely slide out of the way if you had to use the weapon.

When I move out of the PRK I might be able to get one of those.

Or if you have the money, by a Berger sword cane to replace it. :D

I agree with the sponge idea, for what it's worth.

Sword canes are illegal almost everywhere, just be aware.

I want to emphasize this. Where I live it would be a felon to walking around with a sword cane as they are considered large fixed blades (>21") and are concealed carried. It's a shame, I think they're rather tasteful.

legal in Canada if the blade is over 18".

as for the rattling, spray the inside with construction foam, let it cure, insert the sword and you have a snug, RATTLE free sword cane

I was thinking the same thing, but would this collect/retain moisture?

Jam a piece of cork into the end.

I solved this problem for my sword cane by using the liquid handle cover plastic, the sort you dip the ends of your pliers into to make cushioned, insulated handles. I coated the blade with a LOT of thick grease, poured the liquid plastic into the cane and rolled it around to cover all the inner walls, then poured out as much as would come. Then I put the blade back into the cane but leaving it up about an inch so air could circulate. After a couple of hours I took the blade out and let it cure for two days. I cleaned the grease off the blade, stuck it down into the cane and gave it a press-twist to close. Never made a sound afterwords.

technically in Canada it is legal to carry a sword(blade over 18 inch) however, unless you have a very good reason ie, going to a fencing class, the police are going to give you a hard time about it.
